Last couple of days my bike has been hesitating when I crack the throttle under load. Not all the time, but occasionally. Especially when I go to pass is a good example. It will miss a beat or two, backfire and then get with the program. Seems like it's just one cylinder. V twin, carburated and not modified. Any ideas?

Will that fix my backfire or is that just a suggestion? :lmao:

Has it been modified? jetting, exhaust, air filter etc.

Only the exhaust and that's been on there for a long time. So nothing has been done that would cause it.

When was the last time your carbs were synched/ balanced?

Don't know. I'm going to replace the plugs and if that doesn't do it have the carbs looked at. I don't mess with those.

Run a bottle of carb cleaner through it. Might fix it for $4

Penn hooked me up with some stuff they have at the AutoZone next to Sheetz. They have it up front by the registers, little plastic bottle and it worked pretty good. Dumped half the bottle in on 2 consecutive fill-ups.

Yeah, it's weird 'cause it's the first thing I did on BSG's bike when it was sputtering. Just didn't enter my brain this time.

Maybe a fuel management system. I have a Powercommander system on mine and it regulates the flow of fuel to prevent the problems you mentioned. I modified the exhaust and put a high flow air filter, requiring a fuel management system...

Why would you need all that if you have an all powerful V-ROD!??
Trying to break the 50HP barrier??
And a $250 part to fix a $10 problem??

You seem to have a lot of anger towards Harleys. I think you, Mightymouse and Pete should form a book club, read and discuss Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. :huggy:

As for Carb cleaners, sea foam can be purchased at Walmart. Inexpensive and VERY effective.

What kind of bike is it? Year? Last time your airfilter was cleaned/changed?
This is common especially after they warm up a bit. The back cyclinder runs lean due to the heat from the lack of outside air flow it gets. So any further internal restriction such as bad airfilter, warn plugs/wires...that back cylinder will cough.
Pull the air filter and take it around the block without it to see if that helps. Pull the plugs and see if they look different from front to back.
If these aren't the culprit, and the carb cleaner doesn't help, then you'll need to dig deeper...carb tune, ignition timeing check, etc.
