Hi current WD poster. I'm not picking on you, but I'm suprised since your MPD's have had your own little group that you are being this way. I really enjoyed all the things I learned from the HYPP thread. Coming from a different horse background I'm not normally exposed to it. Happy's posting & others like it are why I enjoy reading the local forum. Sometimes you need to contribute more like Happy does instead of just :smack: and just doing the generalized postings. I'm looking forward to the day when I can meet you and all the MPD's. That is if we haven't already met. Have we met?? Should we make the MSA or SMHA Awards Banquet a date or would you like to meet sooner. I'm being totally honest Winn. You can PM me a response if you'd like.

and as for who you state you know better I could really care less... I don't believe much of anything that comes out of your posts anyway..

What really amazes us and forgive us if we can't get over this Happy being denied thing! Is that someone with karma as low as Loper can deny someone with karma as high as Happy because people either don't know her (Happy) or don't like her. Obviously the people at large approve of what Happy says much more than they approve of what Loper says so. . . :coffee: Also, even we know Happy much better than we know Loper. . . And, not to belabor the point, Happy has been on the forum at least 1.5 years longer than Loper. . . Happy go kick her arse! :lmao: You deserve to be the queen bee (dung beetle) of the Manure Pit, not Loper! :howdy:
Loper started the manure bin...any one could of took it upon themselves to do the same..still can.

But thanks for the though anyways. :yay:
Isn't it interesting that WD will be rude to you one moment and say that you look over fifty and shouldn't be wearing tank tops and the next moment be kissing your butt hoping to find a friend? Nothing bad was ever said about you. I have never met you, and several people haven't met you yet. There are no alligators or crocs in the poo poo bin, they are still out here. We are trying to keep it that way. I enjoy reading your posts and would like to meet you sometime. :flowers:

We have met and, trust us, you do like us because we are charming, witty and, by gosh, we're great company. :howdy: It just doesn't make sense for us to expose ourselves in the real world, does it? What purpose would that serve? We like it this way. Thanks for the offer to meet, but we already have and we will again. We just won't be wearing our Winn Dixie T-shirts! :lmao:

ok listen peeps, contrary to popular belief, the personal forum known as The Manure Bin is not the latest hideout. I think I said this before, it is not a forum to replace the horse forums. Unlike some of the other personal forums, just because you request to join does not mean you will get in, you will be denied if the other members do not "personally" know you. Requesting under MPD's and names that our members do not know will get you denied. For those of you that are true horse peeps and get denied, sorry but we can't distinguish you from the multitude of fabricated horse peeps requesting. If you are a "real" horse peep and would like to know more about the manure bin, please feel free to PM me.
K I'm off my mounting block...
so lets go back to my original post... shall we... a personal forum is just that... a personal forum.. I'm sorry if any peeps got feelings hurt... just because you have a horse or pretend like you do doesn't mean you will get in. It's not a "right" that you get in because you are horse peeps, it is a "privilege", WD would like to pretend that any one with horsey knowledge is a sure get in, but really what does WD know? WD was REJECTED by me on a command decision by me and they can't take it. So "they" are now trying to :elaine: whatever...
I will aplogize to the horse folk that got cut off... it was a quick decision and the rest of the manure bin peeps agreed..

We will have to let all the riders & owners at the upcoming Maryland Horse & Pony show that they have it all wrong by cramming for there exam and all the trainers are taking advantage of them. Not so much at the local level, but more so at the larger show barns. Some have several trainers that go on the road and some that stay home to keep things running at the farm.
That reminds me of a thread about trainers that can ride and some are better at teaching. Some barns have both.

Hope you feel better soon!
I sometimes ride with a trainer our of Middleburg, Va. But, for the most part I ride with Ray Wheeler (Harwood, MD) and Vanessa Swartz (Silver Spring, MD). Ray is awesome at teaching you why a horse does what it does and the CORRECT way to change/fix things. I've been riding with him for years! Vanessa is an Grand Prix dressage rider who trains with Linda Zang and Bent Jensen.
But, since I don't ride at their barns neither of them come to my shows. I'm sure if I asked and paid they would, but I've been showing on my own for 11 years.
I think it's great for trainers to go to shows with new or young riders because the atmosphere is different and the horse will be different at the shows if it's not an enviroment that they are used to.
Is this the same Lara that worked at FI? How lovely of you to join us. Oh I forgot I need to get some sleep. It has been a long fun weekend. :howdy:
Um no I do not work at Flat Iron. Actually I am not directly associated with any of the barns around here. The whole reason I brought that up is that if two instructors are responsible for the person's success that one person should not take the credit. It was a team effort to have the person succeed.

I think that is odd..
Usually the instructors are working "together" at the same barn. Their goals, abilities, and riding styles are common, and they want their students to succeed. A lot of the "big" barns will temporarily farm out their students to other big trainers when they can not make the same show due to a conflict in shows. Some trainers actually borrow students from other trainers to ride their horses/ponies for them. We are "small beans" here compared to so many other places. "Well known" in my book means that basically any top trainer or judge would know who you are... There are some very knowledgeable people on this forum. If you give them your references I am sure they would love to check them out, WD!! :yay:

At the risk of turning red I have to agree with WD about coaching at shows. I'd like to hope that my students have learned all they need to succeed at a show at home and are completely prepared when they arrive at a show. That's not to say that I don't go with my students to shows, watch their warm-ups, watch their rounds, and give advice, but I don't charge for it. After all they've paid me to teach them how to succeed at a show and it just seems excessive to take more money for what they should already have learned. A show is not the time to be learning new skills and there are occasions when scratching is a valid choice. There is no shame in scratching and there are situations that definitely call for it. :howdy:

My trainer does not teach me new skills right before a show. But sometimes nerves kick in and you get distracted. Its nice to have your trainer there to re-focus your attention and get you back on track. To remind you of all that you have learned and to now put all of that together and show all what you can do. I can go to any show on my own and do fine, but I dont want to do just fine, I want to do great and sometimes having a trainer there for that final push really helps.

I like it when my instructor comes, because its nice to have that re-assuring feeling... and maybe i just say that because its only my 2nd show season, but to me i like having one there on guard or to help me school, because i cant watch me jump or ride, like yeah i know what im suppose to look like and what im suppose to do, but like farmgirl said, if your nerves start to take over your instructor can get you back refocused and on track and give you that extra push to do you best. and you may get overly worried about your eq or what ever and then you think you look good, but its nice to have your instructor around to be like "relax you look like you got stiff back problems" or your "anticipating the jump to much, breath and wait for it" or what ever
But its also an awesome feeling that when you do really good and they see you place REALLY good or something, and you make them really proud and you can just see it on your instructors face how happy they are and its just nice to have someone there supporting you.
Yeah you should know the stuff your going in the show to do, but shows sometimes esp on green horses, things pop up and new experiences happen because green horses can sometimes be unpredictible, and if you arent experienced in what ever the horse is doing bad, you need your instructor there to coach you through it so in that case you'd be learning new things. and yeah i know the saying "well if the rider isnt experienced then why the hell is she/he on the green horse" but sometimes you get stuck with it, like my horse is trained, but has no miles on him, and needs retraining, and he can be a little bit unpredictible at shows, and since ive only been riding a year, its nice to have a re-enforcement of an instructor to coach you though it.
I dont know. Maybe all this is just because my lack of experience with shows and all, but thats what i personally think/feel

It's completely normal in the hunter/eq world to show with a coach. They're there to give you a good warm-up and discuss the course before and after. Most riders want to go over their round in excruciation detail and prefer to discuss it with someone who can give good immediate feedback. It doesn’t mean they can’t ride on their own and couldn’t go in without the coach. It gives the coach a chance to see the rider in the situation they’ve trained for and adjust the home training program. Coaches who will spend all day with you just observing and helping are awesome!

any other sport the coach is present at the game. and coaching. i think it is excellent to have the trainer be a coach at the show as well. it can be like having another lesson because perhaps the horse acts differently, rider is nervous, etc, there are always things to work on. showing on your own has benefits...you can save money not paying your coach, and you can prove to yourself you don't need a coach. but it sure is nice to have one.
plus, the class we were talking about - the tag a long medal...its what, a 2'6" or 2'9" course? I think anyone competing at that level would benefit from their coach(es) being there, and I'm sorry for anyone whose coach(es) could not be there! it was an important championship class!!

We are a nation of consumers and we need to know that the services we are paying for and the products we are purchasing are what they should be and that there is someone or something behind them if something goes wrong. Just because someone believes they can ride does not mean that they can teach someone to ride. There are organizations that will test and qualify people to do this and it insures that the standards for doing it are maintained at a higher level than your backyard lessons. The certified trainers have to maintain their levels of competence and are tested regularly. Just what is wrong with that concept? Don't you think parents and children deserve that, at a minimum? :howdy:

Alright...I see your point... :howdy:
now...counterpoint:
I spent some time in the 80's learning how to break horses from an uncertified trainer...by the name of Monty Roberts. Now...nobody would ask him to see his certification...but he is known as a very renown horseman (even if I disagree with his business dealings, he is incredible with horses). It seems to me it is at the lower levels of riding instruction, where beginners who don't know the reputations of trainers and require a certification to sift through knowledgable v. not so knowledgable trainers. But to people in the horse industry... does it really matter? and should one be attacked on that basis alone?
Hey, you want to go after Sadie...go for it, makes for hours of interesting reading on a rainy day (add a sex scandel and it rivals desperate housewives :snacks:), but perhaps you can attack some other area that so many qualified yet uncertified people could fall into.

i think its a scam for the CHA to make money. if you want to know what you are paying for, go watch the person teach. just because you are "certified" doesn't mean you are not teaching "back yard lessons"

We've been through this and everyone knows we do not agree. :flowers: However, do you also believe that doctors don't need a license because it's just a scam by the AMA or that attorneys don't need a license because it's a scam by the ABA or that drivers don't need a license because it's a scam by the MVA. With that line of thinking, all we need to do is know how to read and anyone can teach anything! We've been watching extreme makeover for years now, maybe we should start teaching plastic surgery! :coffee: Come to think of it, we like your way of thinking, to heck with licenses and certifications, buyer beware! :jameo:

come on, teaching riding lessons is far from any of those. perhaps if there were actual state or nation-wide certification systems for teaching riding, as in great britain and canada, it would be another story, but the US is lacking in that department. I took riding lessons from a previous dressage olympic teach chef d'equip and she was.....UNcertified.

in fact WD, i think you need to start a nation-wide riding lesson certification system that people actually pay attention to, since you are so concerned with certification. CHA is useless to me, no one seems to use it except beginning instructors who think it will make them look good to have a certification by their names....and maybe it will look good to beginning riders, but experienced riders know that its useless....
Now, the USDF and USEA (have you heard of those?) certification programs are slightly less useless, as they have more requirements for certification. and are discipline specific...
but most higher level riders have no certifications! Perhaps because they don't need them to get students!!!!!
so who are you certified by?

Well, I've got to say that I am very NOT impressed with CHA certification. Did you know and here I'm gonna quote this for ya just so I don't mess it up:
LEVEL ONE INSTRUCTOR: qualified to provide foundational instruction to beginners, with a strong emphasis on safety and group control; candidates must demonstrate ability in ground handling, mounting, correct position and control at walk-trot.
So, did you know that according to CHA a level one INSTRUCTOR only has to be able to show correct position and control at the walk and trot? I've seen 5 year olds who can do that. So, they can teach someone that they are supposed to have a straight line from ear/shldr/hip/heel and bit/rein/wrist/elbow. WOOPIE! I'd pay someone $40 + to tell me that.
But you want to know something funny? The don't have to know diagonals until second level instructor...
LEVEL TWO INSTRUCTOR: English and/or Western, qualified to improve all aspects of the first level, and progressing through canter/lope, including diagonals, balance of horse and rider, pre-jumping exercises, western patterns, trail riding, etc.
I guess that's why there are so many kids posting around on the wrong diagonal. They only have FIRST LEVEL CHA CERTIFIED instructors...
Also, while you learn to canter so you can teach level two you don't have to know jack about leads until level three. This also when you learn "style". Oh yeah and horse care.
LEVEL THREE INSTRUCTOR: English and/or Western, qualified to coach students in improving form, style and understanding of the natural aids, including basic jumping, school figures and leads with a greater emphasis on horsemanship theory and horse care.
So, by fourth level instructor certification you can begin to teach things like jump courses and dressage movements... Since you didn't have to know your diagonal until level 2 and your leads until level 3 maybe this means you've finally learned the elementary skill of leg yields. I'm sure your not schooling tempis. Oops, you don't even know what a tempi is yet, huh?
LEVEL FOUR INSTRUCTOR: English and/or Western, qualified to improve the performance of advanced riders and their horses, including jumping courses, dressage movements, reining, and other performance events, advanced horse management and horsemanship theory.
If you'd like to read the whole page full of :bs: it can be found here - http://www.cha-ahse.org/cert.htm#inst

Ok so this is very true! You dont need to be certified to be an instructor, SL is amazing teacher, and there are some certified people that are just awful, just because you have a certification (not including USDF or USEF) dosent make you a good instructor, all it is is a peice of paper! Basically no matter if you have that little peice of paper or not, theres always good instructors and sucky ones! its all about your training, your drive, your experience, and what you've accomplished.
If you have the training, but dont have the drive to take your students as far as you can, or you arent into it then you shouldnt teach, and if you dont have the training... well experience i should say, then you shouldnt teach casue you might put your student in a dangerous postion if a horse dose something and you have no idea what to do!
and futhermore, i know people that have the big USDF certification, and they sure as heck dont down those that dont have any certifications, even those with that certification will tell you, a good instructor dosent always have to have that peice of paper!!!
You want to make soemthing of it, GOOD instructors or trainers, DONT down other instructors for one, they are hard on their students, they still ride and compete in what they are training their students, they have the knowlege/experience, they encourage and support their students, they are professional, and boy i could go on.
