Just wondering if anybody saw the article in the Enterprise today about the issues going on at Raley's in Ridge? I read it and know for a fact some of what was said was not true.
A new saga begins. . . . :coffee:

I don't know why, but this always comes to mind whenever I hear the word "Ridge."

What isn't true?
Just a few small things, like the part about the Tennysons not going on vacation in 2 years, they went to Iceland like a year ago.

Well, after last night's 'peeing in the shower' thread, I think 'wash' is the operative word for today.

I don't get the paper but tried to look up the article online... All I got was a letter to the editor. What's the issue?
Also, Lenny-your comment was way out of line.

And back on topic...
Unfortunately, this area is not known for its unfair and unbiased reporting. There is also the fact that many people around here are notoriously tight-lipped and the paper may not have gotten or been able TO get the full story.

Well, the part of getting fresh fruit there, that's a lie.
I do like the store, I LOVE their chicken.. but the fruit?? Nope, no going there..

The Raleys have filed for foreclosure on the store because the Tennysons haven't paid them in 2 years and it's looking like there's going to be a bit of a stramash between the families, well those that are involved any way.
I just know that from what I have heard, not very many people in Ridge liked the way the Tennysons ran the store.

What's the deal on the gas pumps? Someone made the comment that the decision to remove the gas pumps was the death blow?

This is the article you're talking about right?
Time for the people of Ridge to get behind owners of local grocery store (http://somdnews.com/stories/101707/entelet101203_32126.shtml)

Yes it is, sorry about that, Letter to the Editor I should have said.

This is the first that I've heard about the store going into foreclosure.
Granted, I don't get down there that often, but I don't mind shopping there. In the summer, especially when Strawberries are in season, they do have the best berries around. They are local produce and so much better than what you can find in the chain grocery stores. Unfortunately for me, the berries sell out before I can get down there.
As far as the gas pumps go, that was a disservice to the Ridge community I think. The closest gas pumps now are the Rod and Reel on the 235 side, and Cook's on the 5 side. They should have kept the pumps-might have brought in more business.

I'm not exactly sure about the whole gas pump situation but I think if for whatever reason the store did end up back with the Raleys, they would put them back in. Apparently it's a big sore spot with people down there. . . So maybe that it what did them in after all. . .

Seeing how the oil company pulled out the pumps and dug out the storage tanks, who would you suggest foot the bill to have it all put back in??
I doubt the oil company will seeing as they weren't making enough profit (any?) to make it worthwhile to have them there in the first place.
And I doubt the grocery store can absorb the cost.. or they'd already have new pumps there.

There's an elephant in the room that no one is mentioning. It's called "Wal*Mart Supercenter!"
It's almost done and online, so you can bet the local grocery stores are gonna be hurting...
Heck, cereal that we pay $4 for in Food Lion is in there for $2.78...
In fact, I'd consider you downright brave to even go in the grocery store business having had to have had at least some clue they might open one up here, which they ultimately did...

There's a "For Sale" sign on a big old rusty tractor.
You can't miss it, it's the first thing that you see.
Just up the road, a pale-blue water tower,
With "I Love Jenny" painted in bright green.
Hey, that's my Uncle Bill, there by the courthouse.
He'll be lowerin' the flag when the sun goes down.
And this is my town.

I've lived through this once before.. they come in with a supercenter, cut the prices on almost EVERYTHING in the grocery section to be well below the competition.. run the weakest out of business, then bring their prices more inline with the competition..

The new owners pulled a Rossignol, they didn't pay the mortgage. The Raley's have every right to proceed with forclosure. I am sure the Tennyson's are nice people, but the grocery store was too big of an apple to bite into.

I still don't understand this thing. I don't know if you saw our other discussion over in the financial wing, but from all appearances, the business license never lefts Raley's name, so how is it that they were the owners?

Not sure about or why the business license issue. I do know that they are in foreclosure and I believe the Raley's are holding the note.
