I have a stupid computer user question.

We have an HP desktop with built in slots for different memory cards. I inserted a memory card in the proper slot. However, I can't figure out how to access it. I figured it would either show up in "my computer" or as an icon on my desktop. Neither happened. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
