Just a question. I just bought a new laptop a couple of months ago. When I use the laptop it gets so hot it turns off. Should I return it or am I doing something wrong ?

Could be a lot of things. Can you be more specific? Is it getting real hot near the battery, keyboard, USB port(s), power plug, etc.? Do you run it on a flat surface or on something like a towel?

I wonder if he is playing some heavy duty (graphics) game(s). He might be able to just buy a cooling fan or one of the laptop stands with a fan built in.

Unless you're blocking the fan port, no laptop should ever get so hot that it turns off...
If it does, I'd get rid of that model quick and make them replace it...

Call the manufacturer. Tell them the problem and they'll likely replace it.

Are you female? If yes, do you set it on your lap? If yes, maybe it's a boy laptop & gets excited. Maybe it's a lesbian girl laptop and gets excited. You're welcome.

Unless a cooling vent is blocked and/or a fan is gone it is possible for it to get hot enough to shut down via a overheat condition detected by a thermistor...
Call the manufacturer service department and open up a trouble call - they should resolve it if it's under warranty.

Well... just got off the phone with gateway tech support. They advised me that it would be either the battery or ac cord. So I took the battery out and am using the ac adapter to the power outlet. I should know in a day or so the outcome. If not the power cord it is the battery.. They will send me a new battery. If that doesn't work.... its the dreaded shipping of the laptop for repair....... I checked and I did find some dust in the battery area but nothing anywhere else.
Thanks for the tips... I'll let yall know
