Firefighters were called to the home on Camp Kaufman Road in Calvert County about noon for a fire on the deck. When they arrived, flames had engulfed the deck and extended into the house. A second alarm was called, bringing about 50 firefighters to the scene.

Interesting that two authors have had fires in the past month. Nora Roberts Bed and Breakfast burned just a short time ago. I am not sure where in Maryland her place is.

Wow, you would think a famous author would have a completely fireproof home.

:yeahthat: He owns multiple properties, but this is the one that caught fire. He owns a lot of the land along Camp Kaufmann and Wilson road.

A little too north and west there. Though I wouldn't doubt him having a house there.

That area is considered Huntingtown and has a 20639 zip code.

It's true - I've never seen a more screwed up boundary line than the one between Huntingtown and Prince Frederick. If you come down Dares Beach Road (which is Prince Frederick) and hang a left onto Wilson Road, you only go about 1/4 mile and it suddenly becomes Huntingtown. But yet, if you continue to travel down Dares Beach Road into Dares Beach itself, it remains Prince Frederick. It's almost as if Dares Beach Road provides the boundary between Huntingtown to the left and Prince Frederick to the right. Very strange...

But if you look up Tom Clancy's house in the Assessments and Taxation database online, it is technically considered Huntingtown. It's just not the Huntingtown everyone pictures (as in Cox Road/Huntingtown High School).

Incidentally, he owns 80 +/- acres at the end of Camp Kaufmann road only. He may own other properties in the area (which you can find out easily enough but I'm not tellin' - - not that anybody should care) but they aren't on that road.

It seems that it's Wilson/Emmanuel Church that is the dividing line but the homes off of Clay Hammond (Lottie Fowler, etc.) are Prince Frederick. :jameo:

It is weird, isn't it? I wonder if it's always been that way? We've been here for 20 years but they built many of those homes back off of Wilson Road, etc. since then. People tend to be hung up on a Huntingtown address...it's much more prestigious than good ole' Prince Frederick.

Spy Thriller Author Tom Clancy's Home Damaged by Fire
March 29, 2008 - 6:01pm

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Author Tom Clancy's home was damaged by a fire that burned a second-floor deck Saturday, a spokesman for the Maryland fire marshal's office said.
Clancy, the author of popular thrillers such as "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," and "Clear and Present Danger," was home at the time, but was not injured in the noon blaze, spokesman Joe Zurolo said.

"The smoke alarms are what alerted him to the fact there was a fire," Zurolo said.

The cause of the fire, which caused about $10,000 in damage to the rear of the three-story stone home, has not been determined, Zurolo said.

About 50 firefighters battled the fire for about 10 minutes before bringing it under control. No other injuries were reported, the spokesman said.

The home is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay about 30 miles southeast of Washington.

Hey Catt,,,this for real?
I could smell the lingering smoke smell last night as it made its way up the hill...

Sadly a kid can die on the TJ bridge and no one reports it ( biker killed in freak accident)
yet a man who wrote books, flicks a butt, burns his house and gets national coverage....

Go figure.....

Yeah he does. My dad used to own a trucking company and he delivered to the house a few times.

Apparently, when he and his wife divorced, she didn't move very far. She lives down Sheridan Point Road in her own "estate" - $1.2 million, 80+ acres.

She's from "the county." I always wondered where she went after she sold the place on Clay Hammond.

She's family, and a very nice lady. Her place is gorgeous, we had a family reunion there a couple years ago.

So what happened then? Is he really a "jerk" as another poster previously posted?

It seems to me I somewhat recall this divorce playing out in the tabloids/newspapers. I thought there was some infidelity of some sort but I'm not sure...

It seems to me I somewhat recall this divorce playing out in the tabloids/newspapers. I thought there was some infidelity of some sort but I'm not sure...

I had two run-ins with him that formed my opinion.

First: I was on the boardwalk in Chesapeake Beach with my dad when I was 15. I had read one of his books and my dad pointed out who he was. My dad was catching up with a friend so I wen't up to him by myself and said "Mr. Clancy, I read your book, Rainbow Six, and I loved it!" He had the simple humble reply of "Ok kid whatever. I'm used to being told that all the time. I'm leaving now." I was at a loss for words.

Second: My car had broken down in the Safeway parking lot over the summer. I had called my mom to come bring me the tools in order to fix it. She said she needed to go to the grocery store anyways so she met me there and I went inside to cool off. As we were standing in the checkout line and he was behind us. Without an "excuse me" or anything like that, he tapped my mom on the shoulder and said "woman, I am trying to look at something that you are standing infront of, if you were kind enough to people, you would move." That had set me off, nobody talks to my mother like that. She is the nicest person to anyone that I have ever met. In fact, you shouldn't ever talk to anyone like that. What is even more ironic is that he was in the hospital and my mom took care of him (not going to say which hospital, or why he was there). I turned to him and said "Wow dude, are you that much of an arrogant (butt)hole? Seriously you need to take one of your books out of your (butt) and put it on a shelf and get some (frick)ing people skills. What makes you so much better than anyone else?" That time, I he was the one that was at a loss for words. He ended up walking away. The guy infront of us started cracking up and gave me a high-five.

I don't care, say I was out of line for saying what I did (post was in PG version) or whatever else you are thinking. I give respect to everyone I meet until they go way out of line and don't deserve it.
