If you're going to be doing alot of it, you can buy one at Walmart. VHS with a DVD burner. They're not that expensive anymore.

Hubby bought me a vcr to dvd/r/rw (Sony) for xmas so I could do the same with our son's childhood home video's. I'd be more then happy to do it for you sunflower (then I also get to see your cutie pie baby IRL)! It's a win - win situation for us!
One problem.... He followed the directions, but it still won't work.... We think having Metrocast is part of the problem....
Now if someone on the board knows how to hook it up and get it working either by coming by and doing it OR by (very) detailed written instructions we would be most appreciative. Could even earn themselves a good meal in the process! I'm very serious about this too!
How's a perfectly grilled ribeye steak with all the fixin's sound to some of you techies???????? Any takers?

I hooked up my VCR to my computer and downloaded my tapes to Vista Media Center, edit and burn to DVD.
I was using a DVD burner/player that was hooked to my TV, and a VHS player but that was the long way of doing things. Check your computer to see if you have the hook ups

The mini camcorders usually come with an adapter to put the mini tape in so it will run in a regular vcr.
Looks like this: Amazon.com: Lenmar Motorized VHS-C Adapter VCA-38: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E8DHSK?smid=A1L4LS2KNDBWYV&tag=yahoo-ce-20&linkCode=asn)

Theoretically, if you found a guy with a Haupage WinTV card with video capture and a DVD burner you might be able to talk him into it...

IIRC, you're close by. As usual, the next week or so is busy for me, but I could get around to stopping by and taking a look. No gaurantees, but I should be able to get it working.

I've seen them as cheap as 8 bucks- you (as in everybody) throw(s) away more than that all the time.

A few years ago I took all my parents 8mm movies and copied them onto VHS tapes as a 50th anniversary gift for them. I had a VHS camcorder, I set it up next to the 8mm projector, darkened the room then started them both and let them run. It took me 3 weeks to finish them all because there were sooo many but, when I was done, they looked great. Of course, there is no sound and it isn't professionally done (picture fading and background music) but they are very watchable.
Last year, after both parents were gone, I then copied those tapes directly from my VCR onto my DVD recorder. I didn't lose any quality but they were not DVD quality to start with. If you want them really well done it will cost you due to the time factor. I hear that pro shops charge by the number of feet of film I think??? I had thousands of feet of film so I did it myself but anyone with a bit of knowledge and a lot of patience can do it.:howdy:

I bought one of the dual player VHS and DVD recorders. It has a single button dub on it, really cool. No computers, no nothing.
Now, if you want to edit the tape, it's easy to capture to computer and edit from there.
PM if you still need some help. I have all the equipment.
