The list of software Microsoft delays the release of at the last minute is longer than the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I like this quote from the article...

"compatibility issue" with the bundle of updates and a supply-chain solution the company markets to small- and medium-sized businesses.

Now - we all download it from MS right?

They blow more smoke than Jeff Spicoli (Fast Times @ Ridgemont High) - a supply chain issue my azz! :roflmao:

We need to go to Vista. That will solve everything. :coffee:

Because when I'm forced to go to Vista, I'll go Mac. Again.

Its not bad. I had it on my laptop when I bought it but replaced it with XP.
Its ok but nothing really changed other than the wigets and all. XP is fine for me.

My brother says "Once you go Mac you never go back!"

I heard a nasty rumor... Vista was suppose to be MS's last O/S release for some period of time, but since it did not take off like they thought another is in the works - O/S 2008...

I got this from a reliable source - has anyone else heard this?

Im a firm PC user... Not saying ones better than the other. Its just that just about everyone and everything is on PC.

My main reason is the software and games.

Mac reminds me of a retarded Linux really. I put Linux on a space PC and right after install took it right back off because I couldnt use anything from my other PCs on it.

This is a quote off of Paul Thurrott's web site ( Windows IT Pro Super Site for Windows ) Disclaimer This is a quote no personal knowlwdge, when i made the post i had been running Windows updates at work and the XP Service pack 3 did not even show up today until about 1400, due to production environment did not download it to any machine today until tested out in a test system/environment, occasionally windows updates don't play nice with application software.

"What are these new features I keep hearing about?
A: Windows XP Service Pack 3 will not include any major new features, but it will include four minor new features that improve the system's reliability and security. Contrary to reports, Microsoft has been very up-front about these functional additions for quite some time now.

These new features include:

Network Access Protection compatibility. Announced years ago, this feature allows Windows XP machines to interact with the NAP feature in Windows Server 2008. This functionality is built into the RTM version of Windows Vista as well.

Product Key-less install option. As with Windows Vista, new XP with SP3 installs can proceed without entering a product key during Setup.

Kernel Mode Cryptographics Module. A new kernel module that "encapsulates several different cryptographic algorithms," according to Microsoft.

"Black hole" router detection algorithm. XP gains the ability to ignore network routers that incorrectly drop certain kinds of network packets. This, too, is a feature of Windows Vista.

And that's about it. Nothing dramatic, as promised."

Jim

Q: That's it? Is there anything else?
Nothing major. Some features have actually been removed, like the taskbar-based Address Bar option.

Downloaded to my desktop (have two systems) and ran - no problems other then it reset a few processes that required ZoneAlarm to acknowledge.

I use Windows XP, Redhat Linux, an iMac with Tiger, and a laptop with VISTA (because that's the only way Dell sold it). VISTA is an absolute miserable piece of crap, slow and tedious -- little more than a lame attempt to copy the iMac interface. If I had time I would downgrade it to XP -- the de facto stable operating system of choice for 9 out of 10 desktop users.

All of the bona fide benchmarks of XP vs VISTA that I have read show that XP is clearly faster for day to day users.

From a business perspective, VISTA is nothing more than an attempt by Microsoft to throw out a new product that would hopefully generate $ billions to increase the company's bottom line, and more importantly (in their minds) elevate the price of their stagnant stock.

I have loaded SP3 on my personal machine at home but I'm not ready to roll it out for the enterprise yet. Information Week (http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/operatingsystems/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=J2QTBM40YX2IIQSNDLPCKHSCJUNN2JVN?articleID=207602577)had an interesting article on SP3 this week.

UPDATE: It looks like (both systems) that Service Pack 3 affected my Sunbelt CounterSpy. It can no longer update. It states a Windows script problem. Sunbelt referred me to Microsoft - Microsoft's patch doesn't work on SP3 - so, looks like Sunbelt doesn't care (used them since 2005). Funny thing - having no other problems just the way Sunbelt decided to handle their updates. Lucky for me their subscription renewal was next month. So, I went with Spy Sweeper (rated higher then Sunbelt).

CounterSpy should run fine under SP3 -- I use it myself. I'm not sure why one of our support reps sent you to Microsoft but I'm more than happy to help you personally with the issue. Just email me at alex [at] sunbeltsoftware.com. I'll make sure your problem gets sorted out. As far as next year's subscription, consider your next year free on me.

I truly appreciate your kind offer. When I informed Sunbelt that the patch didn't work I thanked them for their help and didn't hear anything else. I apologize for saying "...Sunbelt doesn't care..." I'm sure you guys are extremely busy but I was just frustrated at not being able to solve the problem. I've since removed CounterSpy and moved on. I'll revisit Sunbelt next go around. Thanks again.

I agree - always liked Sunbelt. When I look back - I should have responded to the Tier I Consumer Support response and asked for it to be elevated. I over-reacted - lesson learned.

Thanks for your help RadioPatrol.
