Buy a Plasma televsion. They seem a bit less expensive since we are looking to buy a 50" or larger. Hubby says "He's heard bad things." about them but wont elaborate. Any ideas?

I bought a 42" Plasma TV by Samsung 2 years ago and it still works flawlessly. LCD's may be somewhat cheaper and have a longer life but IMO the quality of the plasma picture is superior. Also when watching an LCD, the only people that have the best view are the ones sitting right in front of it, the more side angle you view, the worse the picture quality gets...

PS, highly recommend a quality surge surpressor to protect it as well...

the old rear projections had this problem, but the LCDs dont.
at least mine doesn't.
upside, Plasma in my opinion has a better quality picture if you are running Hi-Def input using the HDMI

downside, they dont live as long, unless thats been corrected since I looked. and if it has, Plasma is the way to go.

Im not sure about glare on the plasma but I can tell you that you can shine a flashlight right into my screen and it does not show reflection at all.

:yeahthat: We are going to go LCD in the family room because of the glare issue.

Lcd's are better for rooms with alot of light, also they are better for gaming systems, they use a little less power than a plasma and run cooler.

Where's Daydreamer? He does high end home theater systems and commercial presentation systems. He'd be able to give some good gouge on the subject.

I love my Panny 42" Plasma.... I chose Plasma because the picture quality is superior than that of an LCD (HD and DVD). By superior the picture appears more natural to me.

Plasma's today are lasting just as long as LCD's. Burn in is still in issue to some degree but it's not nearly as probable as it once was when they first came out.

If you do alot of gaming get an LCD, if you watch alot of movies and enjoy a very crisp natural picture get a Plasma. I haven't noticed any glare issues with mine but then again lighting as well as placement play's a big role here...

Agree, I even love their LCD computer moniters, awesome quality...

i have had a 42" panasonic plasma tv for about 3 years and have zero compliants. from what i have read a plasma picture starts to degrade(picture quality) after about 10,000 hours....depends on your settings like the sharp, color and brightness. i also read that the average household watches about an average of 6 hours a day. that is what i read 3 years ago. i'm sure they are better now. you can also "burn" a picture in the screen if you leave something paused on the screen for a few hours. again, newer technology has ways to prevent it and fix it. im happy with my tv and expect it to last a long time. just have to find what is right for you.
