School supply list?

When I was a kid, you just needed a backpack, some pens and pencils and ... actually, that was about it, calculator prohibited unitl high school. And my backpack lasted years. I still have my highschool one I use to collect rocks in now and then.

I never had a backpack and I walked to school....uphill, in the snow ha ha (true though and back then, I didn't think it was funny) I say, get pens, pencils and some paper & crayons or colored pencils - a glue stick or bottle of glue.....I buy those marble tablets and every year they are on the list......they don't use them or only a few sheets of paper....come back home mid-year and more than half is not used......the teachers will get over it! I don't send it all in with my kids either.....they take what they need and refill each weekend. Can't afford to top off the teacher's supplies. When they start asking for fancy office supplies, I draw the line.

We stopped buying off of the list several years ago. Most of the stuff on the lilst they will never use. We sent them to school the first day with a spiral note book and a pencil. Each teacher then gives them "their" supply list. Most teachers will even let them use the same note books and binders instead of one for each class.

We skipped the supply list one year, asking the teacher for "her" list the day before school. It was the same that was available in Walmart and has always been on target.

Last year St. Mary's tried to impliment a county wide supply list like Calvert does and they bagged the idea for this reason. Some teachers just don't use what's on the list and they couldn't agree countywide.

School supply list?

When I was a kid, you just needed a chisel, some stone tablets, and papyrus.

As a middle school teacher, I just ask that the students have a binder with plenty of paper, pens, and pencils to last throughout the entire year. It seems that a good number of students stop bringing paper and pencil after winter break.

Yup. I just got back from Lunch with my wife. We made a pitstop at Walmart, found the lists, and ended up spending about 150 bucks on supplies, and bookbags and crap.

I found the student school supply list on my daughter school homepage in the parents section.

This is for ST. Mary's County Public Schools, individual school home pages can be accessed toward the bottom of the page...:coffee:

By "crap", I meant "assorted and sundry school things".

I got plenty of free fecal matter if I need it.

They've been selling crap for years and most of it is imported.

Just a thought. this will be my last year buying school supplies. My youngest will be in his senior year in high school. Sort of depressing when I think about it so I guess I will stop thinking about it

Calvert does not have a county wide school supply list (I can only speak for elementary schools)

Sharon....your second link is for Mt. Harmony, not all Calvert County Schools

I just looked at kiddos list and it kinda hit hard that it was the 5th grade list.....the last one in elementary school.
Even the supplies make them seem more grown up. Binders, red pens, post it notes :bawl: Where does the time go??? :bawl:

I cant get over the amount of things being asked for. Where I came from the teachers said when we need it please bring it. They didnt want the book bags all filled with things they didnt need yet. Last school year my kids brought home so many things that never got used.

I usually get the basic supplies(paper, folders, pencils, pens, etc) during the summer and wait till the teacher sends home their list....they are usually about the same with th basics, but some don't want 3 boxes of tissues from every kid at the beginning of the year
