View Full Version : Rte 4 Accident at Waste Management?
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but around 3:30pm, I was travelling north on Rte 4, when I came across an apparent head-on collision involving a truck and a silver convertible, at the entrance to the waste management facility.
Looked as though one of the vehicles might have attempted a left turn into the landfill/dump, when the other vehicle, heading south, slammed into it.
Police and Emergency vehicles all over the place. Not sure if I have it all down correctly, but both vehicles were pretty banged up.

I came by about 4:30 /4:45 and noticed spray paint marks in the road and you could see where a car or truck had gone into the median. No broken truck or cars or police around, though.

It was pretty bad. Hubby and I were coming north, must have just happened, we were a few cars back and saw the helicopter sitting in the middle of the road, when we finally went past the scene, it looked like both vehicles were taken apart from extrication. Hope everyone makes it.

Assuming this is in Calvert?
There is a Waste Management on Rt.4 (St. Andrews Ch Rd) in St. Marys

Ya know, its funny, they spend so much time playing catch the speeder over there, but I'll bet +%90 of the major accidents on Rt 4 are simple failure to yields, where speed isnt really a factor. Either make real crossings, or spend some quailty time near crossings catching and citing folks who fail to yield but dont cause an accident. Running radar wont stop trucks from pulling out, or idiots from not seeing them when they do.

Speed does play a factor with attempts to yield. The speeding car closes the gap at a higher rate which can't always be judged correctly by the yielding car. This is especially true on the curves and turns.
I would also wager, there's going to be some more of this type of mishap, with that new intersection that the state/county is installing on Rte 4. It's a about a mile and a half north of the Solomons firehouse, accessing a new business park?

Speed enforcement isn't about safety, it's about revenue

I only partly agree with you on that. There is most certainly a safety aspect to enforcing speed laws.

It is a new bypass to avoid going through the Lusby town center. You can get off route 4 go by Mill Creek Middle get onto Rousby Hall Road where the circle is.

Don't speed and you won't have to pay them. Your welcome.

Gotcha! I was also wondering if they're experiencing funding problems, or something, because I've gone by the area during weekday regular hours, say 9 to 5, and there's no activity going on.

The bypass is going to go from Patuxent high School (back behind the football field) Pass through Mill Creek Middle and then come out at the entrance. Then right there it is going to be a bigger circle. It will take you out to Rt. 4 now too...So basically the intersection to Rt. 4 will look like the one a few up from that where the Giant is. And from what i gather they are doing this so that there is some less traffic through H.G Truman Rd/Rousby Hall. I think it will be kinda nice too a lil short cut too...Well it would be a good thing if you live/drive from Rousby Hall Rd/Front part of the ranch club and drum point places like that. Cut some time in half. But im still wondering what else is going to go on here in Lusby....All these new surprises....This little town can only only fit so much...But also i heard that there maybe another bypass somewhere along H.G Truman Rd. Like going toward Cove point. Down that way. IDK i guess we will all wait and see right!?

If you cant judge 50-80mph traffic, stay home. I agree a car coming at 120 would be out of most folks experience, but thats not the case, is it?
I don't know what the cause was to the accident; I have not heard. Maybe a sudden impulse by the person turning left into the landfill/dump?
Whatever, it sure ruined somebody's day.

Hey dumbass, if you are doing 80 in a 50 then YOU should stay home because you ARE the problem !

Hmm, never said I did travel 80, before you start calling me names. Most of 4 is 55, but thats not the point. Traffic averages about 55-60 in the right lane, 65-70 in the left, 80 is out of average, but not enough that it should make a big difference in judgment.
So, read and understand before you post. My point was that the accidents that get so much press in Calvert are mostly cases where speed isnt really a major factor. Someone pulls out in front of oncoming traffic, and that oncoming doing 70 instead of 60 wouldn't make any difference in the outcome. The person deciding to enter the roadway made a bad choice. Through ignorance or stupidity, we cant know.
