Who can recommend a good one to me? And who uses one and how well do you think it works?

Hmm, not sure what you mean. You mean an upconverting DVD player, that will make your DVDs hd? Or something to upconvert your cable/sat signals to HD?

Yup, DVD's. I am not about to buy a blu ray yet and heard you could get "similar" quality from one of these upconverters.

I'd advise NOT to buy a Blu-Ray either as I heard they will no longer be making the discs.

what are you smoking? Blue Ray is the standard HD Format...HD DVD's are what have been discontinued.

My Denon DVD player has an upconverter in it...the picture is good...but not as good as the BR is...

Huh, no that is not why I am not buying yet. Blu Ray is the "VHS" and HD is the "Beta" bud.

My PS3 upscales normal DVDs to 1080p, and I can tell the slight difference between it and Blu-Rays. Like the difference between 1080i and 1080p, you'd need to watch a lot to tell, but a while its evident. But thats on a large screen. If your under 60 inches, it would be less evident, to unnoticable, maybe.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not stabbing forks in my eyes over the difference, but given the choice, I pick the BR version every time. Big movies, say "Batman Begins", I'll wait for the BR, others, say "Bruce and Loyd: Out of Control", that I'll grab in SD.

Batman Begins is on BR...i got it at Target Saturday along with Natural Born Killers...
I own a Panasonic Up converter, and a regular DVD recorder. I just bought a 50 inch Hitachi TV, and the TV recognizes the pic at 1080P. From personnel use the picture is sharper using the Up converter instead of the normal DVD player.. I do not own a Blue Ray player yet, it is still to pricey for my taste, so I have as yet been able to really compare the picture.

Well I am not expecting bluray quality out of it, I understand that it just "fills in gaps" so to speak and you can't create data that is not on the DVDs that the BluRay has. I see you can get from under $100, I think I am just gonna get one and try it.

:yahoo:
Newegg does it again.
Anyone that has never dealt with them is missing out. Delivered to my door in about 24 hours. Normal UPS ground shipping is all I paid for.
No way will I ever deal with Best Buy or C.C again.
