I'm sorry to hear that Dawn... I don't know, I'd try to remove the peices and maybe hose it off? I don't know, but I'm trying to bump this for you so maybe someone can help you. Sorry you had to deal with this today, sorry for the cat too.

Just pull it out and wash it down. If it's stuck between a belt and a pulley, just turn the engine over again until it falls out :shrug:

I just told him to get the hose, poor thing he is under the truck trying to pull it out, he said it is a mess.

Ugg, while pulling out the peices, there was a live kitten in there as well. He said it scare the shait out of him when he went to pull thinking this was dead and it moved. I have the live kitten in a carrier I am going to take it to the emergency vet after he cleans the dead one out.

This is such a horrible day.

She has all my traps except one to aid in the cause and traps from others. Maybe when it gets colder out they will be easier to trap? :shrug:

It's not easy, I know that. Years ago, Ott's parents' old neighbor lady was feeding a feral colony. Cats EVERYWHERE. It took some time but eventually they got them out of there.

I'd offer to help her with the baby if it's not hurt too badly.

Yes, I did because I didn’t know what to do. I have never had that happen before, and pray that it never happens again. People on here have usually been very helpful when I have a question regarding animals.

Catt, the one that died was more of a "teenager", I have only seen it probably at most 3 times. The kitten I took to the vet this morning was one of the ones I posted this past weekend that I tried to catch. This past weekend was the first and only time I have seen these kittens. The vet technician estimated it to be about 5 weeks old.

The Spot has been very gracious.

I am not sure who the momma is for these kittens, but I guess they would be considered mine. I feed the cats that are feral in my area. I try my best to trap and get them fixed, but once I catch a few of them, the other cats aren’t very trusting of me for a long time after that.

Yes, I remember going back and forth with you before. I still don’t think it’s wrong to feed them. I take responsibility for them the best that I can. I don’t just put food out there and ignore them. I try to gain their trust, I am able to pet a few. I have been able to trap and fix almost twenty in total. I get distemper and rabies shots for each one that I catch and fix.

Yes, Dems thanks. It is a hard process, you gain their trust and the minute you trap one of them, the trust from the other cats is gone, you have to go through the trust process all over again. It is a feral colony, there are approximately 30 cats that I know of. I have gotten more than half of them fixed, but it’s hard, because the ones that I haven’t gotten fixed will mate and they have a litter and maybe I will be able to get 2 of the four kittens, but the other two elude the traps and then they mate, it just keeps the going.

We are in the woods, there are cats that you will see one time, and then never see again. Then there are the cats that you see every day and then don’t see for a few months and then viola, they show back up.

There are plans to trap in October.

Actually I'm glad you posted about it Dawn. On chilly and cold mornings I'll know now to thump the hood before getting in my truck - hadn't really given it much thought before now.

One other thing I have learned in the past -- the cats like to jump up under the back of the truck and camp out in the spare tire. In the past I would pull in my driveway and partk. On two occassions while backing out of the driveway, I have run over two cats that have tried to jump out of the spare tire while I was backing up.

Now, I back in the driveway so when I leave, I am already facing forward and if there are in cats still the spare tire they can jump out while I am going forward and this way they dont get ran over. Since the driveway is so long to begin with, I go slow while so if they do jump out they wont get hurt and once I am at the end I stop and wait about 10 seconds to give any a chance to leap before pulling out.


When it is cold out, I hit my red button on the remote the alarm thingy that makes the horn beep, that way it scares them out of the front of the truck if they are there. I have just never never never had them in the motor part during the warm months.

I would wait if you could and just try to scrub it down really good. Not that it would do inside but when I take my truck to the automatic carwash in CH they use a soap that smells like bubble gum and it gets in my vents and smells nice... maybe that might help? I say don't trade it in now because the market is kind of bad on SUVs right now... at best...wait until winter where you can play up the 4-wheel drive feature to try to compensate for the poor gas mileage :shrug:

Consider yourself lucky. I have to re-wire my jeep, completely, thanks to a cat that had taken up residence under the hood as evidenced by the muddy paw prints and white cat hair that were left behind. I'll trade ya!
