Thinking about ordering a kit and a scanner...I need to do more research on the record keeping etc on it..there is "home again" :Avid friendchip SUDS chips" "AKC tovan chips" I am sure these are a breeze to put in...I also don't know if I can do other peeps animals or not but I was thinking if I order 50 or so chips it is cheaper..I only need 25 or so...Would anyone be interested in this for COST like $10-$20 per animal?? Just thinking out loud today..

Any ideas are welcome...I don't know about the registration part that is what I have to look into..

Also want to be able to do horses too...thinking cats, dogs, horses and ferrets etc..

I had my dogs done at CAWL...$25/dog.

What would the cost be to register the chipped pets into the main database? Sometimes there's a "maintenance" fee.

Let me know when you decide to do something like "low jack"... I have a 16 year old boy I need to track.

Looks like AVID is the most popular according to Revival..just talked to a rep..Home again is the one you have to pay yearly on..I can not that with how many I want to do...Avid is $9.99 each for lifetime registration and if you sell the animal they need to pay $6 for change of addy...one time...looks like that is the way to go..

Catt this is just a start an idea...what company are yours registered with??

Off hand, I can't remember. I have the paperwork at home. I paid a one-time fee and don't have to pay a yearly fee.

The chips I got at my doctor doesn't cost anything but for the chip and it wasn't that expensive. All you have to do is go to their website and put in the info for the pet once it is chipped. The link to that site is:

PetLink - International Pet Directory (http://www.petlink.net)

Thought it might be another avenue you could look into.

I would think the vet would just put another on her.

Chips are pre programed with their own number..she would have to be rechipped (as if she had never been done) and a new number assigned to her..

That's what I was afraid of
How do they get the old one out?

I would assume minor surgery....or if it is not bothering her leave it, it is not reading anyway but that would be a vet question don't go by me I am dumb..

Gotcha! In that case, the vet should be able to read her information.

Just take her to the vet and have them scan her for the #. Write it down and have it put on another tag.

I wasn't sure if I was (legally) aloud to do that. I could just print it up at one of those machines at Petsmart. HUH
