Sour grapes or legitimate complaint? That's the question we're left pondering after reading that Porsche believes Nissan must have cheated to record its 7:29:03 (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/) lap time of the famed Nürburgring race circuit.

The GTR is an awesome car, and if I had $70K it would be my first choice of cars to own. Any lap at the Nordschleife under 8:00 mins is awesome, and under 7:30 is absolutely incredible.

It is my opinion that a few of the cars in the "Production Vehicle's" lap record list do not belong though. A car with real race buckets/harnesses, roll cage, comp tires, and very high ft/lb spring rated coilovers should not be considered production vehicles.

Cheating or not, that is still an incredible car. It would be lame if they really were cheating though.

I'll just buy both and not worry about it.

I'm sure Nissan had a better driver on a close to production car.

If you had $70K you'd have a really hear time buying one for that much anyway. My buddy paid a little over $96K for his. Passport Nissan had 2 of them at one time and both of those where over $85 after dealer markup. Just saying.:coffee:
Although if you walked in with $70K CASH that might work too.
