There's a place called New York Buffet where Aloha used to be.
It's the same exact thing, with minor changes.
I ate there once. I'm not going back. :barf:

I hope this means no more hauling up to MoCo for a decent biryani.

I would put the worst Chinese restaurant up against the best one here in Southern Maryland and it would still loose hands down, same with the Pizza!!! :coffee:
So Bob in your extensive travels, how many times have you been to New York???

I think I read on the forums a while back that it was going to be the same owners at Hot Noodle, but please don't quote me on that, I could be incorrect.

I love my food, and loved NY. I love Philly more.
Rick's has the pizza, Cerro Grande has the Mexican and Okada has the Japanese. Emily's for lumpia. I make the best cheesesteak.
Best for the area...IMO.

Well, you're wrong. I went to a noodle bar in Chelsea that made me want to gnaw my arm off. And there are several pizza places in NYC that can't hold a candle to Rick's.
AND, while we're at it, Rick's has a better cheesesteak than at least two Philly joints.

Bee ess.
Pizza place on 23rd.
Chinese place on, if memory serves, 7th and 23rd or so.
I actually was happy with the pizza because I was in a 2am state of hunger, though it was pretty crappy. The Chinese place was just tragic.

Rick's??? :banghead:
Obviously there are places in Philly or NYC or wherever else that won't have as good of pizza or cheesesteaks or chinese food as the "best" in other locales...not everyone can be great, especially when you have random people in that city making the city specialties to lure in tourists. But I've been to a ton of places in NYC with better chinese and pizza than anything this area can come close to offering.
Rick's cheesesteaks are ok, but I've had better without ever having been to Philly. Okada is a pretty good Japanese place, so we have something in town at least. None of the other Japanese places are that great (especially Asahi...I mean, seriously?). And I haven't been to Salsa's yet, but the rest of the Mexican places around here aren't anything special. They're all 'ok'.
But then again, once you're used to something, then having something that tastes different may not hit you the same way it would hit other people experiencing it for the first time. That's the only reason why I can explain Asahi, Cerro Grande, and Monterrey's are so popular :lmao:

My extensive travels have taken me around the world, NY is barely a blip on the screen, and not even among the top ten.. or twenty..

Is it the empty space next to the Vietnamese place? I went to Navy Fed yesterday, but to be honest, never looked over that way to see the even if there is a new place going in the other half of the old Hot Noodle.

Yes, the owner from Curry of India in Waldorf opened the Bollywood Bistro where the Hot Noodle and the Vietman places used to be on the third of October. There was a very large buffet, over fifteen items of authentic Indian foods. All very excellent. He is open for lunch and dinner. He is in the process of moving his Waldorf location from the isolated location out to a location on Highway 301 in front of the Burlington Coat Factory, which has a planned openning of the first of December 2008. If you come expecting "Americanized Idian food, you will be disappointed, this is the real thing.

Too bad the Vietnamese place did not work out. I ate there twice and while he served alot of his stuff on paper plates and plastic forks, it was not bad. He could not compete I guess with Montery's (UGH) or Chef's (which I still want to try).

The number one thing wrong with pizza here is the price and presentation. At least up north.... NY or even most places in New England, I can get a slice and a coke for a buck fifty. Not even an option here. If I want a Large pizza up there, I can get it for 8 bucks with one topping. Here I have to pay at least 12 bucks. The fact that Dominoes, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns are doing so well here tells you that the local pizza isn't great. I liked Pepperoni's the first time I ordered but something has changed already in the first 2 weeks... They went from a great crust to the same old local cracker crust that most of the local places have.... ick.
As far as chinese goes.... I have to go to 5 different places to get what I want here. NO place here has a decent egg roll....
Emily's is great.
OH and cheese steaks overall suck... especially with Cheese Wiz.... Go north and order a steak bomb with everything and pay only 6 bucks and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I never thought of it that way about the pizza. Even the ones you mentioned are not that great (rather have Ledo's if I get a chain pizza).

I LOVE Vietnamese food. The food was decent but the cockroach that joined us while we were dining killed my appetite.

The new Indian restaurant, Bollywood Bistro, is owned and operated by the owner of Curry of India in Waldorf. For those of you who haven't been there, this is REAL Indian food! What a blessing to have this in Southern Maryland! I, for one, am thrilled to have this restaurant open up so close to Base. I have lived New York, the capitol of great Indian food in this country, so I'm pretty familiar with what good Indian food is like, and this is definitely good Indian food! I highly recommend giving Bollywood Bistro a shot. I plan on eating there at least once a week myself! :lmao:
