Saw this on NBC 4 news this morning, and it mentioned a property owners McCain sign was destroed with a note left behind that the homeowner was racist, just for having the sign in his yard. This is exactly what i feared was going to happen. I would not vote for a black candidate just because he was black noe for a white candidate just because he was white, nor for a female candidate just because she was female. I would however vote for any and or all of the above mentioned candidates if i thought they were qualifified for the position they were running for. But it seems like anyone who puts up a sign endorsing a white candidate for president is being labeled racist. This is a shame...

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- As the presidential campaign winds down, the reports of vandalized campaign signs are on the rise.

In two cases, a sign for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama was burned in Falls Church, and a sign for Sen. John McCain, his Republican rival, was sliced in half in Manassas.

The signs endorsing McCain that dotted Holmes Smith's front lawn were left in pieces a few days ago.

One of the signs was replaced with a handwritten note that read, "You and your ignorant, racist views have been liberated. You are welcome."

"I just feel sorry for the people who have nothing better to do with their time than to go around and do stuff like that," Smith said. "To me, that's getting kind of desperate."

In Falls Church, signs for Obama were defaced. By Tuesday, most had been replaced.

A homeowner who lost several signs made hung large signs from the home reading, "You can steal our sign, but you can't steal our vote. Obama."

Many in the neighborhood said they have been victimized multiple times.

"We had an Obama-Biden sign that got torn apart, and we replaced it with two other signs and they both got stolen just this past weekend," resident Sam Klein said.

"I've got six or seven more in my house and if these go down, they're going to go up again," resident Lori Stillman said. "And if I need to tape them in my windows, I will."

In Manassas, city police are investigating several cases of vandalism to campaign signs in the city. Nine McCain signs were slashed, and in each instance, a letter left for the homeowner read, "You and your ignorant racist views have been liberated. You are welcome. Love life. :)"

In Howard County, Md., two 21-year-olds were caught tampering with campaign signs after they were followed by the homeowner. Republican and Democratic leaders joined together Wednesday and called on all residents to respect each other's views during this emotional political campaign season.

This is clearly a lie. Republicans are upstanding citizens and this is clearly a push move by obama-supporters to gain a sympathy vote.

A guy I know had his Obama sign stolen

Anyway, here we go with this: if you don't vote for Obama, it can't possibly be because you don't agree with his views. It must be that you're a racist.

I'm sick of that crap.

I wonder how all of these racists who vote for presidential candidates solely on the basis of their race decided who to vote for when both of the candidates were white?

Like four years ago. And four years before that. I'm amazed anybody bothered to vote in those elections since there was no viable criteria on which people could pick one over the other.

Would it be considered vandalism if I put a sign that that said, "THIEF!" in front of a Hoyer sign? Here is my favorite campaign sign of this election...

I think you might have missed the point of my post. The original post included a report about people being referred to as racists simply because they had McCain-Palin signs. The premise being that the only reason someone would support McCain would be because they're racist. My :sarcasm: was demonstrating that that is an absurd premise.

Certainly some people could be supporting one side or the other on the basis of race, but to assume that's the only possible reason to support McCain is preposterous.

So only racist klansman are voting for McCain? If people think putting a McCain/Palin sign up is disrespectful and a slap in the face, they are the racists with hate issues.

Call me anything you like, I am voting McCain.

Most people who resort to calling others racist have already lost their other arguments.

Not racist. Blacks can't be racist. Only whites can be racist.

Dang, that means if Powell runs for president, I can't vote for him because since I'm white, I'm racist.

Folks don't riot, they loot! Hey, I need to spread the wealth around. A new TV for my living room, and a new TV for my bedroom.
