I just bought a laptop this weekend at the Computer show at Capital clubhouse. I live in an area the does NOT offer DSL through Verizon or Directv. I heard of the cards they sell at the v-wireless store can anyone explain these cards. It say .25 per minute WTH, if I am paying a monthly fee, shouldn't it be unlimited, or am I misreading this.

I have a verizon wireless card for my laptop its 60 a month. I really dont like it at all can be very slow at times in certain area around here. Any time I can find a WIFI spot I connect to that. But this is only when Im outta town or cant direct connect.

You will get dialup speeds unless you live in a metropolitan area where broadband is available. It's not so bad, slow but not excruciatingly so because they optimize graphics and whatever for faster downloads (like NetZero does).

If you travel and need access on the go, you want the V card. If you're just need to access the internet at home, might as well save some money and go with a dialup connection.

:confused: We use those because we can't get a corporate or ISP line into the Navy base. We have been getting 1M/s transfers downline, sometimes peaking at 3M/s. The trick is the signal strength. If you are showing 2 bars or less, it will be no better than dialup. Where we are, we have 5 bars, and it performs very well.

In fact, I use the card in a Kyocera KR2 and share the card between 2 computers at the same time.

That's if you go over the plan allowable. Verizon has a small plan ($30 or so monthly) if you don't want to pay $60/month.

Broadband is here in SOMD.

I used the Verzon card in Lexington (Exploration) and it was VERY fast. I was loading pages faster on it, than I do through my LAN.

I also have broadband connections in Dameron/ Ridge.

I should be getting a card here soonest, and will have to do some speed tests with it.

Did you test the speed of the card and your LAN connection?

I am using Sprint's service - the key for the 1MBPS connection is you need to have the EVDO RevA capable card, Verizon or Sprint. My cell phones are Verizon, but my Air Card is Sprint - I just get a faster speed with Sprint here at the house. Total cost is $62 a month...

Vrai - check to see if your card is RevA capable... you might want to upgrade if it is not, it is a night and day difference.

The charge depends on when you signed your TOS......For me I don't get overage charges they just throttle my speed to around 200k.

I believe if you signed up for VZ after 3/2008 they charges you. Prior to that date they throttle you.

Super. I'm in the same boat. I've had my card now for over 4 years. Thank goodness for the Usage button to get an idea how much you use. I've only gone over 4GB once. I normally use just under 3 GB a month.
