First of all, rent scooters to get around. Parking is nutty, so a car wouldn't work, and Key West is too big to walk everywhere.
Take shorts and light shirts, and maybe a sweater for evening. We were there last Feb, and the temps were in the mid 70s. Don't bother with a lot of dressy stuff unless you just like to dress up - Key West is pretty casual.
As to where to eat or drink....gosh, where would I start? We went to a bunch of places - basically ate and drank our way up and down Duval.
There is a sunset celebration every evening at Mallory Square. You should plan to do that at least once while you're there because it really is incredible. Also they have entertainment and vendors in the Square, so get there early.

Say hi to my Ex/W... Cant miss her, HOT pink convertible Mustang 2003 with a black racing stripe down the side. when I say HOT pink I mean it!! If you find her she will do everything she can to make sure you have a blast. KW really isnt "that" big but deffinately get scooters or something. Have fun! (wait found a pic)
At Mallory Square you can get on a trolley that drives over the entire island with a little bit of history and commentary throw in by the driver - you can get off at several stops and stay as long as you want. Sloppy Joes Bar and Kermit’s for some key lime pie are a must just because they are landmarks.

I wanted to do this, but never got around to it.
Seaplanes of Key West Florida (http://www.seaplanesofkeywest.com/snorkel.htm)
They fly you out at low altitude over the flats. You can see sharks, rays dolphins etc. and they give a little talk about the area. They drop you off at the Island fort and you can do what ever you want. Swim, snorkle, sunbathe, take a tour of the fort, etc.
More info.
Key West attractions, hotels, fishing charters, diving, things to do, real estate Key West, Florida (http://www.keywest.com/)
Hogs Breath Saloon really does have a good burger. They also have a web cam so you can call your friends while they are at work and say "look at me!"

If you like or want to try cuban food, this place is great. Also, it isn't as touristy as one of the other well-known places like "Meson de Pepe". We met up with friends we know who live there, much more locals go there. We ended up closing the place down that night. :yay:
Also, maybe you're interested in signing up for one of the snorkeling runs. They take you out to the reef on a 70' catamaran, provide you all of the equipment, and give you beer or wine at no extra charge.
Like vrai said, definitely rent a scooter the whole time you're there. That's the only way to get around.
Have fun!

Just do the Duval crawl and you will be fine. There are a lot of really cool bars and Restaurants right there and you can just walk up and down the street. Have fun!

Kellys Caribbean Bar ,Grille & Brewery - best Bloody Mary ! :alkies: we saw Kelly McGillis there twice when she owned the place . The Brewery is great too !

DON'T go past the clock on Duval St.
Last time I was there I found a great BBQ place about mid block near the clock though.

Some of the hotels will rent you jet skis. You have to stay in a certain area though. If you are going down for a week you could take the classes and come back a certified scuba diver.

Just make sure the scooter you rent has a guard on the muffler. I ended up going to the hospital while I was down there last time because of a horrible burn on my leg I got getting off the thing. Ouch.
It was mid-calf too, so the bandage kept slipping off. Was pointless to try and keep it in place, ended up being exposed for the rest of the trip. I was rubbing burn cream on that thing all day long.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We just got back from a wonderful trip. Here's our rundown:
We were a bit hampered because hubby uses a walker and has a service dog. The scooter arrived 2 1/2 hours late(not a big deal) however, it was enormous and would not be practical at all for him to use. I should have specified that it was a mobility scooter. 4 Stars rental said we would still have to pay a 4 hour minimum and the drop off fee ($120). In the meantime, I arranged to rent one of the 4 seat electric cars at a dear price for 5 days of the 7. It was that or stay at the hotel for the entire time. The hotel concierge arranged for 4 Star to cut our cost in half and the hotel picked up the other half! The hotel, Hyatt was wonderful!
Places we ate:
Damn Good Food To Go- for take out breakfast
Shor Restaurant at the Hyatt- Great crab corn chowder
Rum Barrel- good Philly Cheese steak "wit'
Cafe Marquesa- wonderful dinner
Southernmost Beach Cafe-interesting twist on calamari, with pepperocini rings
Sarabeths for a wonderful breakfast
Margaritaville
Places we drank:
all of the above except the breakfast stops
Louie's Backyard
Hogsbreath
Island Dogs Cafe
We can't speak highly enough of the Hyatt, they were wonderful to all of us. Just a hint about the weather, in November, the wind tends to come from the north. The Hyatt was like a wind tunnel most days and made the temps much cooler. Once in town or on the South side of the island, the temps were pleasant.
Everyone, everywhere was pleasant and talkative. The dog was certainly a magnet. It seems that everyone was there to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding or other special occasion. Interesting observation about people--everyone we talked to missed their dog more than anything or anyone!
Next time, and there will be a next time, I need to hunt down an electric car that is less expensive. This was a huge expense that we did not count on.

I can't believe no one has mention the Garden Of Eden Bar over The Bull bar on Duval. Great entertainment. Good Place for people watching. A lot of natural people that visit the keys go there

Gotcha on the "natural"! Can't really imagine a "clothing optional" bar.
