Our current water heater has apparently gone up. It is an A.O. Smith power shot. It is under warranty. Repair guy says the parts are covered, but it will cost about $590 in labor to replace. This seems high. What do you think?

I don't think hubby would like that from the repairman. He's in charge for the day.

They have an AO Smith power heater, same I have actually.
I just fixed mine last year. It would cycle on and off and not actually light up to heat. I got the manual online and a multimeter to figure out the issue. I think I even posted on here.
I love all the food, and my family came here so it was nice to not drive anywhere.

I understand. I am just feeling like I am over a barrel. Went out on Thanksgiving Day. They were able to get the igniter to work again so we have had hot water over the weekend. Just don't know how long the temporary fix will last. It does make sense to look at Lowe's or Home Depot.
We were told the baffle fell and damaged the burner assembly. They say there is a parts and tank warranty. Hey, I look to you all for advice... please be kind.

Here is my thread. http://forums.somd.com/life-southern-maryland/105949-water-heater-problem.html
Good luck to you, I guess it is just a choice you have to make. I say if it is working and you don't have to fix it then wait it out unless you can't than don't.

I mentioned the thermocouple and guy said the the powershot did not have one. I used a company I have nto used before. Always a bit leery...
I really appreciate your trying to help.

I asked about the thermocouple. They said the powershot did not have one. Thanks for your serious response. Have some meetings this week that I would like to be scrubbed up for. Can't really afford the $$$ but will do what we need to do to have reliable hot water.

Confused, AO Smith will warranty heater replacements if the tank leaks not if there is a malfunction with the mechanical side, What is wrong? It sounds like its not being trouble shoot vey well.

Call a gas company, they usually have GREAT deals installing a gas (propane) water heater and tank. Sometimes for free with a contract for a couple years of fuel service.
$590 seems like a LOT more than a new tank would have cost, and it only takes about an hour of labor to install a new tank.

Well, they came. Spent 2-2 1/2 hours installing the new water heater. The water pressure in the kitchen sink is depleted and the pilot light won't come on on our in floor unit. I hate getting taken... I expressed my concern with the A.O. Smith website who recommeneded these guys as authorized providers. Have gotten 2 unsatifactory responses from them. other than exposing the company on Angie's List, this forum the balt. Sun and other places, I don't know what to do. I don't want to accuse unfairly. So, I'm hoping to hear real opinions of installation costs.
