The importance of the right to own guns is not about sport, idiot British lady. It's not even about self-defense (although that would be important enough in and of itself).

It is about the ability to fight your government, so that it does not feel free to behave despotically, so that you don't have to fight your government. It is about what happened on the Lexington Common on April 19, 1775. Who would we be today if those brave men did not have guns to fight their government with?

I'm so sick of these red herrings that 'gun control' advocates throw out. Are they really so oblivious that they don't understand what the issue is, or are they so zealous about their despotic cause that they are willing to lie to themselves in pursuit of it?

This is one of the things that has always bothered me about the NRA (although I realize the important role they play in defense of the Second Amendment). All too often, they let the debate diverge from the core issue. They need to bluntly and relentless state the real importance of gun rights. We have to maintain the ability to fight our government, physically if necessary. You have no rights if you don't have that ability. Maintaining that ability is the most patriotic act any citizen can take.

The Second Amendment is the gateway right - it breathes life into all of the others, and without it, sooner or later they will all perish.

I know, I know, I'm preaching to the choir.
