My wife and I took her mother out to dinner for her birthday. She chose to go to Lennys. The place looks great. The food how ever is a different story!
The two of them ordered the "Pot Roast" It came as sliced roast beef, with very few vegetables and some gravy sprinkled on top. When I said something to the waitress about this, I was informed that this was "Country Pot Roast".
What country is what I want to know! I ordered the Prime Rib. Worst Prime Rib I have ever had in my life! No spices used whatsoever. For my side item I tried the creamed spinach. That was a joke! Spinach with melted cheese mixed together. Most of the food did not get eaten. It DID however get paid for. Would you beleive 90.00 dollars for this crap!!
Never again will I or any member of my family step foot into this place. They made NO attempt to fix anything.

I've been to Lenny's several times since they reopened and it's always been very good. And my dining companions haven't complained, either.
No offense, but I don't believe that your prime rib was bad. Lenny's has ALWAYS had excellent prime rib. Always.
And about the pot roast - what did you think it was going to be? Roast beef with vegetables and gravy.

The brunch there is still good. The boys gobble up several of the waffles and get three plates full of goodies when we go.
Pot roast shouldn't be sliced. It should be melt in the mouth tender chunks infused with lots of gravy/ veggies and bread to sop it up with.
I'll stick with the brunch for now.

Actually most post roast IS sliced. Chuck roasts fall apart but they're not the "classic" pot roast.

If I do a pot roast in a pan for myself, yeah, it's chunks. If I or my mom do a WHOLE pot roast for a family, it is just far easier to slice it. No difference in the taste or substance, it's still the same roast.
OP is getting bent for nothing here.

Pot Roast is a cheap piece of meat like Chuck that is cooked until tender, falling apart at my house, usually with Potato's Onions, and carrots.
Then you take whats left and add the pot likker back with it thicken it with flour, and make beef stew.

It must be a regional thing, but the only pot roast I've had/made is fall apart tender and can't be sliced.
I use chuck, sirloin, bottom-top round. When cooked for a long time in liquid it falls apart (more like a stew) Venison roast is also good.
I've ordered pot roast in one restaurant. The Cottage Cafe in Bethany Beach DE. I heard raves about it, and it was what I make, but I didn't have to clean up afterwards. :yay:

I don't remember the hashi story exactly... I know at some point, may not have been the same night, but one of my parents made the server cry.
The hashi thing was over the waitress not knowing what the hell they wanted. If you work in a Japanese restaurant, you damn well better know what hashi are.

I have to agree with that. I have lived here almost all my life and every time I have gone it has been bad. Tyky and I went a few years ago and we felt like we were being ripped off having to pay the prices they were charging for the food they were serving.
Petruzzi's is the same way. I told D the owner that is sucked and he was shocked that I would actually tell him that. He seemed more pissed at me for saying something than his kitchen staff for sending out crappy food.

There are so many variations of Pot Roast; perhaps the OP's family just didn't get the kind they were expecting.
Like many have already posted, I like mine cooked slow, so that the meat just falls apart, with red potato's, carrots, onions and a medium thick gravy. Or, leave the potato's out and serve it with mashed potato's.
Here's a weird recipe I found on the web:
MOUTH WATERING SUPER EASY POT ROAST
1 pot roast that fits your slow-cooker
1 can Cola "classic"
1 envelope of Lipton's Onion Soup Mix
Place a 3-4 lb pot roast in slow-cooker (or large enough to fit the size of slow cooker you will be using).
Pour half an envelope of Lipton Onion Soup mix over the roast. Pour the entire can of cola over roast, and then top with remainder of soup mix.
Set slow cooker on high and cook for 4 hours. Turn pot roast over about half way through cooking time. The meat falls apart - it's so moist! YUM!!! Submitted by: laurie b.

Yes your right. It's called an opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. I'll say it again. THE
PRIME RIB SUCKED!!! No spices, no flavor, and no horseradish. As far as the Pot Roast goes, it was not what I expected. Everyone I 've talked to about it agrees. Pot Roast is cooked in a slow cooker, with the vegetables together. Not in a roasting pan. The meat should be falling apart, Not sliced, and dry as well. Enjoy eating there. I know I won't ever be back.:barf:
Dude, how do you think pot roast was made before electric slow cookers were invented? Roasting pan covered with foil, lid or what-ever. Cast-iron pots were the popular choice and can do a better job in the oven than slow-cookers for the challenged. Not knocking busy people for slow cookers or microwaves, but I'm just saying, if I have the time, I'll roast something in the oven before I throw stuff together in a crock-pot. I'll also add again, I hate Lenny's. But I love a good pot roast out of the oven and falling apart with homemade au-jus or gravy with all the side vegetables.

I've got to agree with the OP. Lenny's food is just plain terrible! I figured i'd give it another try after the renovations. Nothings changed. Food is still terrible.

I was going to stop by for lunch today but didn't. The place looked packed. Like a Christmas party was going on. They are all probably really pissed right now because the food was horrible. :killingme

... for a good length of time also. At a banquet function and everything was outstanding. All of this hate is probably coming from ex-employees who just have a grudge or people who have personal motives.
Everyone loves to review restaurants, most are not qualified. I'm sure most of us have done it but this appears to be excessive.

All this talk about Lenny's was making me hungry so I ate there tonight and as always the food was excellent. I noticed on the menu that there are two types of roast beef.... There was a slow roasted version as well as a sliced version. My guess is that the OP ordered the version he or she didn't normally care for.
About my meal; I ordered the Rockfish special and it was excellent. The Rockfish was baked to perfection and appeared to be extremely fresh. No fishy smell or strong flavors were present nor was the generous portioned fillet overcooked. My meal came with two side items so I chose a salad which I consumed prior to the arrival of main course. The salad was just average but I will say the vegetables were all very fresh and that the lettuce was crisp. I typically enjoy my salads served at room temperature and this salad was served right from the refrigerator at a much cooler temperature than I would otherwise prefer. The second side item I chose were the green beans. Again, there was no disappointment with the quality of the vegetables. The beans were steamed but not overly so and still had that crunch I would expect from a freshly steamed vegetable. The color was vibrant and the seasoning was perfect. Over all I would rate my meal at an 8 out of a possible ten. The two point deduction would be due to the salad being just average and served below room temperature.
About the service; it was a busy evening at Lenny's, however thanks in part to the recently expanded dining area our wait was most minimal. Immediately upon being seated we were approached by our waiter and we ordered drinks. With in 5 minutes we were sipping on ice tea, eating fresh dinner rolls and ordering our main course. The main course arrived just as we were finishing our salads. Refills were always granted with out having to request them and our check and table were cleared expeditiously at the completion of our meal.
What I enjoy about Lenny's; the food has always been good but what really makes Lenny's a pleasant place to dine is the clean, relaxing environment coupled with stellar service. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. If I hadn't of stumbled onto this negative thread regarding Lenny's I never would have known about the restaurants repuatation. I think many opinions are based on the pre-remodeled Lenny's that was dingy and smoky. First impressions can often be difficult to overcome but I think this restaurant deserves a second chance..... I know I'll continue to enjoy the gem known as Lenny's.

There are almost 100 thousand people living in this area, and you think a dozen or so that don't like Lenny's have an agenda?
You only post 6 times and 4 are in defense of Lenny's, I think you must be an owner or family member.....
I've only been to Lenny's to eat, not work and Lenny's and Petruzzie's are the only restaurants in this county I will not step into. Bad customer service from almost 20 years ago and I still haven't forgotten. There weren't too many restaurants around here then and small business owners like Danny thought they could get by with sub-standard service and food. There was no place else to go. You reap what you sow, and I'm surprised he doesn't have more bad reviews.
I qualify with my review of Lenny's as a previous customer. The only people not qualifed to say anything about Lenny's are the one's who have never eaten there. Fair enough? Only owners would disagree with a harsh review of the service or food. So bash me and my taste, but I will continue to recommend EVERY restaurant in this county over Lenny's for overall dining experience.

This a shame as you are missing out on some really great food and service from a fantastic local restaurant. No I don't work at Lenny's, nor am I an owner....
All the waiters and staff at Lenny's are very well groomed and they wear clean uniforms. The owner is extremely committed to making sure that customers are getting top notch service and the staff has always been very friendly and accommodating during each of our visits to Lenny's. How do I know about the owner? Each time I've dined there he walks around the dining room interacting with customers and inquiring about the service. A nice touch given the vast number of chain restaurants in the area....
I think you should go back to Lenny's and ask to speak to the owner regarding your negative experience at his restaurant. Not only I do I know he'll listen to you, but I also know that he'll want to hear your feedback so he can prevent future negative occurrences. Most small business owners are very perceptive to what their customers have to say. I know for a fact that Lenny's is one of them.

My experience? Hubby and I went and had prime rib dinner, everything was ok, had eaten there many times and was ok with the place, liked the piano guy playing while we ate.. There was a mistake on the bill, a few bucks, still no big deal. Pointed it out to the waitress and she absolutely went ballistic. Top of her lungs yelling, and the place was half full. If anyone was in there that night, they would probably remember it, I do. I was so mortified and embarrassed, we paid the bill and left.
The next day I wrote a two page letter to the owner explaining in detail what happened figuring he would really like to know how his employees act with their customers. I would if I had a business. Anyway, long story short, I never heard back and that was with me leaving my address, work phone and home phone. His total lack of concern about a customer revealed his attitude.
I’ve eaten many places and been disappointed with the food but happy with the service. Bad service kills it for me every time. Not very often a mistake is on the bill when it comes (once every 10 years if that) and it’s always looked at, corrected or explained. Not total meltdown by a bad-tempered or unstable waitress having a bad night. There still are not any other restaurant on my list I wouldn’t go to except his. I’m pretty forgiving, if he had called and said “mom was having a bad night” or what-ever, I would have been ok. So I vote with my wallet and opinion 20 years later….

Just so I understand you here....
You had a very bad experience at Lenny's 20 years ago and you have been holding it against them for 20 years! Yet you claim to be a forgiving person? Interesting....
How do you know the owner recieved your letter? Did you call or do any follow up to make sure your concerns were addressed? Mail gets lost sometimes..... To say that the owner would be this complacent over your obvious dissatisfaction and his employees lack of grace and professionalism seems absurd. NO ONE runs a business this way and expects to be successful. Lenny's has been around since 1952 so it's extremely unlikely that the behavior you've described is the norm. How about giving the owner the benefit of the doubt and give them a call and tell him your story? This just doesn't sound like the same person I know after eating there for a few years now.
Very sorry to read about your experience though and I'm certain I would feel the same way as you. Just not for 20 years and definately not without a few face to face discussions with the owner.

FYI, I worked for Danny years ago and have been friendly with him ever since. If a waitress "went ballistic" on the floor, I can tell you right now she would have been fired. So you, Sindy or whoever you are, are lying.

We do the Sunday brunch very often, but for one really big reason - no lines. The food is adequate, although from time to time the bacon is not crisp - or it's not there (it's a buffet).
Most of the time the wait staff is very good - occasionally we get a dimwit who can't remember orders or who rarely if ever returns to the table to check on things.
My wife and mother-in-law usually order omelets, and they've never complained. I almost always get the steak they have there, and eat it with the eggs. The steak they have out for Sunday brunch is almost always very, very tender.
I could do without Lenny's, really. But if you go out for brunch on Sunday, and can't stand lines, it's your first stop, because it's certainly no *worse* than say, Bob Evans and tons better than IHOP.

Who knows? Maybe not enough people even know there's a brunch there? I sure didn't, until someone told me. We noticed the same thing about Petruzzi's, when they had their brunch over there across the street. We also pick Lenny's because it is the closest restaurant to our house, and our in-laws. It just saves time for the rest of the afternoon.
Personally, I can't figure out why people stand in line at IHOP. I think their food is terrible. Really. Most Sundays, I can't even get in the parking lot.
I think Bob Evan's food is quite average - but next door, at Ruby's, nobody's waiting. Beats me. I think people are creatures of habit, and once they start going somewhere, they keep going until they have a reason not to. I think unless there's a compelling reason to go farther afield to some other place, we'll still be there, Sundays.

I have to say the same thing, been to lenny's many times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and only had one time when the food was not that great.
If the food was that bad, I would have not paid for it, if they were unwilling to fix it. This sounds moe to me like another forum member in here trashing local busines...

I certainly would not write a letter over going in the next day or calling and for shiats sake that was 20 years ago and that was one bad waitress.

Last time we were there was about 5 years ago for a Sunday brunch. Slim pickins' at the best. My mind was made up not to go back after I asked a server what the dish was that appeared to be some kind of meat in a burgundy/maroon colored sauce and she said she had no clue!

The wife and I went there last night, I got the rockfish special and my wife got the cheese steak. The fish was bland with a lot of shell in the crab, the sandwich was kind of skimpy on the meat. We'd been there about three weeks ago and I got the crab cake, stuffed shrimp, and scallop combo. The stuffed shrimp was the best I'd ever had, the crabcake was very good and there was not a single piece of shell in the entire dish. My wife had the fried chicken, she liked it so much she placed an order to go for my daughter. Just goes to show things can be up or down, depending on the day. I should also mention that the service was fine both times.

I have no MPD's, or what-ever you call them. Worked in a technical field (not waitressing) for the last 24 years and I have my opinions about where I will spend my money eating out. Lenny's DOES NOT deserve my money and I will spend it elsewhere. If this was an open forum with all comments welcome, I will state where I will not eat. That's all. No agenda, just my personal opinion, so take it or leave it. Go eat there, I don't really care, it's your money.

Lenny's son Dan has owned it since the late 80's. Great family and hard workers. Real small business ownership role models in St. Mary's.
I think it's an excellent place to eat. Since the rennovation was completed, Lenny's is near the top of my list.

Just so everyone here knows; bluebird is the owner of Lenny's. My true identity has been discovered by this extremely observant person. :lmao:
Here's the deal. Lenny's has good food, it's a nice place to eat since they've rennovated, I know the owner and think he's a hard working blue collar guy who cares about his customers and anyone who holds a grudge for 20 years and bashes a place they haven't eaten at for that amount of time is an idiot.

I've never been to Lenny's...I know somebody that used to work there, but never heard them say anything about the food.
Prime Rib is always different wherever you go. Every chef has their own way of making it. Some have issues with cooking it rare because it won't taste as good...some season the meat, & some don't.
I work at Catamaran's (not currently because of the season) & people either loved their prime rib, or it just wasn't to their liking. The chef there cooks it a certain way, & will only make it rare to a certain extent. Catamaran's has some YUMMYYYY homemade cream of crab soup though. Mmm!

I don't think I'd use Catamaran's as a measuring stick for any kind of cuisine, especially Prime Rib.
FOr one Prime Rib shouldn't come out of a vacuum pack, it shouldn't be individually sliced prior to cooking, and it shouldn't be grilled.
And I've never known any cook/ chef that actually cooked a prime rib that didn't season it.
A slice of Prime Rib should look raw, shouldn't have grill marks and shouldn't be brown or grey.. but RED or a dark pink. Your plate should look like the floor of a butcher shop..
You shouldn't have to chew, as a correctly prepared Prime Rib will just melt in your mouth, as the blood dribbles down your chin.

I'm sorry. I didn't know you worked in the kitchen at Catamaran's. D-bag.
First of all they slice the meat after it is ordered--No 'vacuum pack' or pre-slicing to that. It's not grilled, & it is seasoned, as well as marinated in Au Jous. & I disagree with you on the bloody & RED part because not every person likes meat like that. I don't usually eat food that's still red or pink in the middle. Like I said, the chef there doesn't like cooking the prime rib REALLY rare- that's just his style, but it can be cooked to your liking.
Half the things people say about the place AREN'T true, & all the crap that gets stirred around to give Catamaran's their not-so-good rep is mostly bull too. Obviously you don't know first hand.

It's mostly seasonal work. Nobody really stays in the winter just because it's not reliable income except for the bar part & holidays (a lot of our seating is outside). But in April is when we start getting busy again!

I used to eat in Catamaran's ages ago. I remember them having excellent fried oysters, was never really crazy about the wings. The reason I stopped going is because it's a cess pool. Dirty bathrooms, nasty carpet, and they seat people at dirty tables/bar. I've actually gone in and sat at a dirty bar when they have only 3 or 4 customers in the place. If this is what the customers see, I can only imagine what goes on in the kitchen.
It may be better now, but I have no desire to find out.

Depends on when you went. If your talking about 10+ years ago, it wasn't Catamaran's then. We don't have carpet anywhere...? The bathrooms are re-done because of a fire from the roof guys that happened right before Tiki Bar opening & if you went during nightclub, you can thank your fellow barmates because they seem to like to TRASH the bathrooms upstairs & downstairs.
Besides this. I'm done defending Catamaran's--people believe what they want.

Catamaran's does well during the summer because of where it's located and because of the outdoor seating and live Buffet wanabe. The food is mediocre at best.

No, it wasn't 10+ years ago, that's why I said "Catamaran's".
It really doesn't matter what you do to the place. As long as you attract the same ol' clientale year after year, you'll get the same kind of damage. As long as the owners/manager's only care about the bottom line, you'll continue to have employee's who don't give a ####.

If the food was that bad, I would have not paid for it, if they were unwilling to fix it. This sounds moe to me like another forum member in here trashing local busines...
I just find it hard to believe you had a bad experince and out of the blue you come to somd.com, to the fourms to complain.
I have to agree with you, I've been there quite often also and most times the food was great. Once I ordered a fish meal that was not what I expected and did not like it, they replaced the meal for me and offered to reimburse me, since I did eat the replacement meal, I paid for it. I do have a "REAL" job. In fact i'm a accounts payable associate, working full time- bringing in $1,900 monthly & i'm a full time student. I believe that's pretty freaking great.
...But it's nice to know that you think people that wait on customers hand & foot to make a living don't have "REAL" jobs.

...But it's nice to know that you think people that wait on customers hand & foot to make a living don't have "REAL" jobs.
I find it funny how you are still talking about this over-exhausted topic, especially since I said I didn't want to argue about over it anymore-mainly because things were getting way off topic. & Then you have the nerve to try & insult me? Over the internet? Grow up. Get a life. Somebody might actually take your stupidity seriously someday.
People came to this thread to talk about their opinion of Lenny's, now just because you don't happen to agree with what I said, & blah blah blah-doesn't mean you have to act like a d-bag.
Ignore him. You sound like you are doing great for yourself. :yay:

My sister got her master's degree and still worked full-time in a restaurant. (Ruby's!) The money was great (especially with what the rents went for back then) and she had her own beautiful place, fancy car, etc.
Once she hooked up with her soon to be (then) hubby, she was able to take a lower paying job and start her climb up the ladder (using her degree)
Times are different now and the living costs are out of line, but we do what we can do to make it.
Whether you like Lenny's or not is not an issue. You are working your butt off to further yourself. This is refreshing.
I guess I won't be seeing you at Lenny's.

I thought you were poor and asking for donations? Eating prime rib in a restaurant is a bit extravagant for a beggar, don't you think?
Let me answer your question my mother and father took me to that restaraunt 3 years ago, They Paid! Okay and just because someone is going through hard times doesn't mean they've never had a decent meal in there life. And I deleted those posts because my prayers have been answered and i really don't need to hear all the BS about. SO THERE!:smack:

Whatever. This post was deleted 2 days ago when I pointed it out. You also put your name out here for everyone to see. All they need to do is look you up on global. If you don't need to hear BS about it, then don't look.

I don't like peas in my casserole so I'm alot of peas short. So what?
Lenny's is good by the way. I eat there often and enjoy the good food. I like Lenny's.
I am the owner of Lenny's. If I am not the owner of Lenny's then I work there. Just look for the big black guy washing dishes. If you see me back there wave to BlueBird so I can wash a "special" plate for my good friends here at the forum.
Lenny's is good and I voted that it is good with all my MPD's and now I can't vote anymore. If I had 10 more email addresses I would vote atleast ten more times.
Lenny's is good. I like Lenny's!:otter:

I don't care for Lenny's food; but their old bartender (Sean?) was really nice. Someone said he's managing Petruzzi's now.
My little brother used to work back in the kitchen of Lenny's. That knowledge alone is enough to keep me from ever eating there again.
Have a few friends who kids worked there too, and none of them has anything bad to say about the resteraunt.

Ignore it, if you had to ask for help because you fell on bad times, then that is your business, if you had a meal at lennys that is also your business and you do not have to explain that to anyone.
If someone uses global to look up your name for personal reasons which are not work related, would concern me but not enough to worry about it.
Why they would that do that is beyond me. Who cares? Most people would not abuse the system like that for petty reasons and those that do should know better.

Just how do you think it was cooked BEFORE slow cookers??????
Inquiring minds want to know.

I'll bet they wonder why it's not called crock pot roast.
We've always done ours in a deep covered baking dish in the oven. If I do it I brown it first.
