If so, did you get all tongue tied & act like a dork?
:dork:

Let's just say I realized (after the fact) a Hall of Famer was sitting behind me on an airplane & I was two seconds away from asking him to shut the hell up with his 'humming''. I was giving him the 'evil' eye.....:killingme

Once I realized who he was, I was like a kid in the principals office.
:yahoo:

Then I felt really stupid for even caring.

Mike Wallace, NASCAR driver. Shook hands, got his autograph. Did not act like a jerk....

This was right after the Bristol race in '05. My brother to the far right, the team owner of the #4 car in the white shirt, Larry McClure.

Air Supply, Walter Cronkite, Shirley Chissom, Aunt Ruby from General Hospital, Ted Koppel and Judge Raley to name a few, I know there are more, I just can't remember them (CRS). I cooked dinner for them at different times. Aunt Ruby even came in the kitchen and gave me a hug, said that her scallops were the best she had ever eaten. I've got some of their autographs still. Oh, one more the head coach of the Pittsburg Steelers in 1987, can't remember his name and the governor of Maryland in 87 too. If only I had a memory left I could name more.

I took my 11 year old sister to a Kelly Clarkson concert for her birthday. We had a meet and greet pass. I was a bigger dork than she was. I don't even know why.. she's just a person. Met Nick Hexum and SA Martinez of 311 and didn't really have a chance to be a dork. Nick was doing enough for himself walking around drunk. Met the members of Goldfinger and acted like a big dork. Mostly cause we were hanging out backstage and they kept walking past us and we didn't say anything. We just sat and stared... and we took pictures of their equipment cases that were sitting around. It was cool though cause we got to hang out in their tour bus and Charlie gave us a vegan corn dog. It was weird.

Ooo and one time I met the drummer from Yanni: Live in Acropolis. His name is Kalani... go figure. He was at a music teacher convention teaching a drumming class. They announced him as the drummer from Yanni and while others were asking him questions about drumming I blurted out "Are you REALLY the drummer for Yanni?????" Duhhh....

And no, I don't act like a dork when I see him.

I have met many famous and semi famous because of the sport/business Im in. Extreme and main line sport figures, TV and movie actors, CEO's, heads of state, Models, news anchors and reporters. The first few times I had no idea how to act, until I got to hang or party with many of them off camera and away from their crew. So far all of them I've met are regular broken wretches like the rest of us and the famous part is just their job. Wanna make friends with em? Dont talk about what makes them famous, talk about normal stuff like family, work and places they have visited.

I've been fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time to meet many "famous" people. Only time I didn't know how to act was when I was a kid and we ended up in the same hotel with the teams playing in a football Hall of Fame game. My dad and I were both too backward to ask for autographs but my mom strolled right in - of course she wasn't a fan so it was no biggie for her.

Wow! I think the head coach of the Steelers was Joe Green in 1987. Harry Hughes was the Governor.

I've met All the guys from Overkill and a bunch of other bands. I crawled around under the Anthrax tour bus with their guitarist looking for something he'd lost:lol: I played pool with Harry Anderson in New Orleans in 2004.
The first time I met Bobby from Overkill I had been so drunk I passed out on the bar before their first set and nearly missed the whole thing. When we were out back with them later, I was still hammered and slurred out a few "F*ck you's" before passing out in my car.

It was a monumental occasion:dork:

"have you ever met a famous person and acted like a retard, yes, no, or I don't care?"

so basically, there is the obvious "yes, i met a famous person and acted like a retard". next is no...so is that u met a famous person and DIDNT act like a retard, haven't met a famous person so couldn't act like a retard? Or are two incredibly different answers clumped into one response? Then the "I dont care"...is that "I dont care" about this question, or not caring about meeting a celeb, or what?

i've met plenty of celebs, never acted stupid, but your poll isn't very well defined.

I've met mostly athletes and politicians. Maybe 1 or 2 actors but I can't really remember who, and none of them were 'major' people on TV/movies so it wasn't a big deal. He can be a nice guy, but he can be really arrogant too. His oldest son is a nightmare (though he's into drama so that can explain it) and the rest aren't much better. It just depends on his mood and a bunch of other factors that go into the situation when you meet him.

I've met a few different people. Grew up with the DeMatha basketball people in College Park, so I knew a lot of sports people through them. And I worked in College Park, so MD football and basketball were big. Lefty Dresell (sp) wasnt that neat. Parris Glendenning was a regular at the store I worked at, and was such a joke. This was when he was County Executive for PG, and I didnt vote for him as governor because of the way he acted, and he proved me right. I met the Grateful Dead, and Abby Hoffman at the hotel where I worked. I also went to school with several women who are now pretty well known actors, and still really sweet and genuine. For the most part, they're all pretty cool, although some are obnoxious.

One of the ones who has always impressed me was Danny Ferry, who was several yearss ahead of me in gradeschool. He played DeMatha, then Duke, then I think Cleveland Cavaliers. He was really nice, very funny. Remembered me years later when his Duke team stayed at the hotel, even introduced me to the whole team. He was a very genuinely nice person.

Dork :huggy:
My mom loves Yanni.

You are the coolest rocker chick I know.... I have never gotten wasted at a show, I once passed out at a Mighty Mighty Bosstones/Shelter show.... low blood sugar :ohwell:

I have met the ever famous Toppick a few times and was in awe... I had no idea how to react :smoochy: or :duel:
I acted like a dork....:blushing: I gave him a bottle of wine.

I thought you ran with Timothy Leary...

UGH!!! :tantrum

I met Peter Gabriel once before one of his concerts (my rock idol) :yay:

He was performing at a nearby college, and I came up very early to make sure I'd be at the front of the line getting in. I bought the tickets as soon as I arrived, and the person who sold me them happened to be an old friend I grew up with. That was weird, wasn't expecting that. So I asked if they needed any help setting up, since I'd only be waiting on a line all day.

They put me to work. When the band showed up for their sound check, the concert committee started booting people out. I immediately caught on to that, and took charge directing people on work that still needed to be done. That kept me from getting kicked out.

His keyboardist on that tour was Larry Fast, and he even showed me the brand new state-of-the-art Fairlight computer synthesizer and even allowed me to select certain familiar sounds I knew and play them while they were setting up. Made my day.

By the time it was time for the concert, I was front row center (general admission, no seats). Here are a few pictures I took...

I met the Redskins a few weeks ago. Fred Smoot was a complete azz, very cocky. Jason Cambell was very humble and modest. I professed my love to Clinton Portis! :smoochy: Chris Cooley was hilarious.
No wait... that was a dream I had, felt very real though when I woke up. I was angry with Smoot for days. Maybe someday I will meet them.

Never met anyone famous. I did go to Bow Wow Bday at Love, didn't meet him though.
My cousin met Rod Stuart last summer, she was a bartender at some movie festivle, Rod Stuart asked her to join him in his room. Ha!

I met Linda Hamilton in the early 90's. (Terminator/Beauty and the Beast) I sold her a pretty jacket and never let on that I knew it was her. I also managed to increase the sale at the counter. She was very real and "normal".

In the mid 80's I hung out in Georgetown at Champions (a sport's bar) Many Redskins hung out there. I iggied them all (I never liked sports, but knew the bartender...free drinks ) I think my sister dated a few.

I met Susan Lucci (sp?) in 1981. I worked for Hecht's back then and there was some kind of mall publicity event...she came into the store and my dept. All I remember is she was pretty.

I had dinner with Neil Armstrong when I was 6 years old or so (I only remember the name and he had walked on the moon or something) Same with Strom Thurmond and I only remember the adults talking about his young wife. I hope I behaved.

I met James Dickey when I was 10. He was a pervert and child molester. I'll stand by those words and never take them back. No wonder his twisted mind came up with "Deliverance". Truly a sick man, but a great writer.

One of my neatest meetings was with Pat Conroy's brother when I was about 10 as well. He knew I was a voracious reader and gave me a signed copy of his brother's book, "The River is Wide". I have moved so many times since then and have no idea where that book is, but the memory remains. His brother was our neighbor for a short time and I became a fan of Conroy's books.

That's all I can think of for now.

When I lived in FL I was next door the the Miami Dolphins right guard, Jeff Toews. I think 1984 was his last year with the Dolphins. I also met Steve Young who lived in our neighborhood, his house always gave out the best halloween candy.

Met Robert Morley while in London England during a play Banana Ridge. Very nice man some may remeber him as the Qantas British Airways spokesperson.

I was sorta friends with Priscilla Taylor, my brother hung out with her went clubbing with her in South Beach Miami. Guys google her... she was a playboy playmate. BTW she is not a natural blonde nor is her name actually Priscilla Taylor she changed it to that. I think she got my brother into some pretty bad stuff a few years ago I am glad he turned out ok.

I met and was not impressed with Jerry Lewis. What a jerk.

I knew Tony Little (the fitness equipment guy) before he went nuts. He used to be a very quite and reserved guy before the accident. He barely spoke a word when working out.

While I was working out got to meet lots of pro body builders because the owner of the gym was the NPC Vice President. Got me in to bodybuilding as well but well that was a while ago so no need to dwell.

There are some pro wrestlers I worked out with as well. Fun guys.

Louis Armstrong - Rode down in an elevator with him in Vegas when I was 14! He had his trumpet and handkerchief and was very kind to me and my cousin.

B.B. King - Ran into him on a plane. The closest I came to "losing it." I kind of yelled out "B.B.!" when I saw him. He was cool though.

Sue Simmons - Anchorwoman first at Channel 4 here and in NYC.

Gil Scott-Heron - Singer

Bryan Burwell (I guess he's famous) - Sports Reporter. We went to college together and are in the same Fraternity

James Brown - CBS Sports - Good friend of the family

Kenny Anderson - Bengals QB - met him at the Hyatt Regency the year they won the Super Bowl

John Lewis - Congressman from GA - One of the bravest people I've known

Jimmy Doolittle - Met him when I was a doorman at the Hyatt. When he entered the lobby, the entire place gave him a spontaneous standing ovation! True hero stuff.

Maureen Bunyon, Gordon Peterson, Del Walters, etc., etc. Met them all when I worked at the "Twin Towers" Building in Rosslyn, the home of WJLA.

Various politicians through my job.

Last year Clinton Portis (damn he is small, it felt weird since I was taller and bigger than him :lmao:) was staying at the same hotel as my family and I and we had drinks w/ him and some other Redskin players (not sure who I am not a Redskins fan ) both nights. That was a nice experience.

Met David Spade in Vegas and acted like a total little school girl all giddy and excited to meet him... it was quite embarrassing :blushing:

Living in San Diego I met and hung out w/ a lot of punk bands but my Bad Religion experience was by far the best! Got to eat and hang out w/ the band before their set when they were on the warp tour and then got to hang out again after thier show back stage. I have pictures at the house I should bring them to post.

Just wandering but am I the only person who listens to rap and R&B? Most of you are listing rock bands, wrestlers, etc. Am I the only "urban" person on here? I figured I would be one of few but I am starting to think I am the only one. Anyone else watch Bet, MTV, E!, or any other "younger" style shows and channels? I have heard of some of the famous people listed but not many.

I have noticed that is the word they call the hip-hop community lately. Like Urban Outfitters clothing store is a hip-hop style store. I don't know if they use it to be politically correct. I wouldn't always use it because alot of rappers are from the nitty gritty south, not the city. But I am sure if you google urban clothes, urban music you will get rap and r&b pages.

I am sure that he was a great person but before my time. The farthest I go ol'school is Al Green, Marvin Gaye, New Edition, Jodeci, etc. I am a young white girl who grew up listening to hippie music. I will say that Tupac was a great poet. Not going to lie, when I first read your post all that popped in my head was Jill Scott, took me a minute to realize the spelling was not the same.

I met Gene Simmons from KISS back in '89. He was at FAO Schwartz with his then-pregnant girlfriend Shannon Tweed (Playboy). I knew who he was only because I'd heard of KISS (and his tongue) but never listened to any of their music so I really didn't care.

My mom held hands on an airplane with some race car driver (long, long, long time ago) because she's scared of flying.

I've met several famous people over the years (I'm 56), but there's one person that really stands out in my mind because of the way I met her.

It was in late 1969 or early 1970 and I'd gotten off work and had stopped by the Jiffy Shoppe Carry-Out in Forest Hgts. to get a sub. It was about 10pm that Friday night and a Mustang pulled up out front. A woman in a formal gown got out and 3 Green Berets in full dress uniform got out also. As they were coming in, I noticed that one of these Green Berets was wearing lipstick which I thought was VERY unusual. When they got in I could tell that this particular Green Beret was a woman and she was also a little drunk. I happened to look closer and noticed the name tag she had that stated her name was "RAYE". It took a few moments but I finally realized who she was from having heard my parents talk about her when she had been on TV. This woman was the comedian/actress Martha Raye.

Evidently the alcohol consumption had taken it's toll and I heard her ask if there was a restroom there to which she was told no. Because I knew the owner of the Gulf gas station next to the Jiffy Carry-Out, I walked over and advised her she could use the facilities there. She thanked me profusely and walked in a hurry over to the station. While she was gone, I asked the Green Beret with all the medals why Martha Raye was wearing the uniform. He advised that her son had been killed in Vietnam and they'd been to his wake which then explained the alcohol. When she returned, their order was just coming up and she kissed me on the cheek thanking me again.

I was only 17 when this happened and still living at home. When I got home my dad asked about the lipstick on my cheek. I told him... "Dad... you won't believe me". He didn't until an article in the Style section of the Post the next morning verified the wake.

I have noticed that is the word they call the hip-hop community lately. Like Urban Outfitters clothing store is a hip-hop style store. I don't know if they use it to be politically correct.

Not when they 1st opened ... or "Up Against the Wall"

Urban Outfitters Wholesale designs, manufactures, and sells women's and men's clothing to over 1,000 specialty stores under four labels: Anthropologie, Co-Operative, Ecote, and Free People. Primary elements of the company's overall retail strategy include locating stores where their target customers are naturally concentrated; renovating and adapting existing structures to provide distinctive store environments; offering a broad mix of eclectic and fashionable brand name and private label apparel and home furnishings in the same store; and using innovative visual merchandising, striking store displays, and a distinctive mix of merchandise to present its wares.

Urban Outfitters was created in 1970 by two retail novices, anthropology graduate Richard Hayne and his former roommate at Lehigh University, Scott Belair. Hayne was just back from two years working with Eskimos in Alaska as a VISTA Volunteer; Belair was a second-year student at Wharton School of Business and needed a project for his entrepreneur workshop. Over beer one night, the two came up with the idea of a store for college and graduate students, selling inexpensive clothes and items for dorm rooms and apartments. Pooling $5,000, they opened the Free People Store in Philadelphia, near the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The store offered inexpensive second-hand clothing, Indian fabrics, scented candles, T-shirts, drug paraphernalia, and ethnic jewelry, in 400 square feet decorated with packing crates and beat-up furniture. "I was that market," Hayne told Dan Shaw of the New York Times in 1994, adding that "everyone associated with the store was that market."

The store was a success. "Belair got an A on the project," according to Robert La Franco in a Forbes article, "and went on to Wall Street, where he [ran] his own bankruptcy workout business." Hayne stayed with the business, adding such merchandise as coffee mugs and glassware to the product line. In 1976 he moved to larger quarters near the university, changed the store's name to Urban Outfitters, and incorporated the company. In 1980, with sales around $3 million, Hayne opened a second store, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, close to several colleges.

Hoover and I ran into Joan Jett all over Oahu for a week - had no clue who she was  Joan Jett finally told Hoover who she was as I was picking her up from the hotel and taking her to the airport... Hoover blew her knee out and was flying home early.

At the airport Hoover saw her and her band and "introduced" me to her. :lmao: She thought it was nice to talk to normal people who did not know who she was...

I was getting her upgraded to first class but was told it was already taken care of. We found out that it was her and the band did that before we checked in... they covered the difference from Oahu to LA to BWI - it was a GREAT gesture on her part.
