So here's what happened: I took my wife's DVD player (panosonic, I think) out of her old HP to put into the franken-machine I have. It works as I was able to install Fallout 3 onto this machine, but windows media player has "issues" with playing an actual DVD movie. The web help was no help as it wanted me to purchase a plugin for media player...which I've always hated, by the way.

I've got no idea where the recovery disc to the HP is...we bought that thing at least 3 moves ago.

Anyone know of any good freeware that'll run my DVD movies? TIA

Thanks!VLS rocks!! I had to do the same thing a while ago. DVD shrink is a good software for copying DVD's. It's legal....so as long as you don't copy copyrighted material (movies)

I use Nero Showtime, Media Player Classic (more Codec's than you can shake a mouse @) or Quicktime ....

I have used VLC on my MAC, just fine

I use Smart Ripper ( hard to find anymore) to make one huge VOB file and them convert to MP4 with Handbrake ... of course you can use handbrake to do a direct conversion
