Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))
you can't just delete the short cuts. its embedded into the core and soul of windows.
You should have downloaded Opera. Now your plagued with the infamous Mozilla Memory Leak (MML.Win.32) bug.

Firefox is great, but keep IE. Many Windows sites require you to use IE to download updates and what not for your computer.

There's an extension you can add to Firefox called 'User Agent Switcher.' It allows you to change your user agent (which is what browser a website sees you as) to Internet Explorer, or anything of your choosing. Opera and K-Meleon both have this by default.

I love Firefox too but can't use it on this site. For some reason it won't let me reply to posts correctly here. Weird. I still use IE for somd.com, obviously.

 I use FireFox on my home and work PCs with no issues. FF v3 has a quirk in that it erases and redraws the display a couple of times, but only on this site. Otherwise, it works fine. A few have complained about certain things not working, but I don't think it's the browser itself, maybe another underlying program or utility.

nah. Opera isn't that great. Firefox is better. I think Chrome (by Google) is better too :yay:

I have used FF for a couple months and it has worked well for me. I used Netscape Navigator for years, but this is a little more intuitive.

You've been brainwashed! Opera is better for the simple fact it wasn't created using a Java platform, therefore not requiring copius amounts of RAM to run it. The best browser using a Java platform, however, is K-Meleon.
Just the opinion of one person.

I don't know if anything has changed since I last tried Opera sometime within the last couple years, but that program required the -most- RAM which is one of the reasons I said to hell with it.

You cannot un-install IE7 like you did in XP. In Vista IE is the desktop windowing engine, i.e; it is the equivalent of Windows XP Windows Explorer.

the newest final release of firefox gives you ####fits with replying to the forums if you have WYSIWYG editor turned on.
Actually, I have WYSIWYG trouble with everything with Firefox. That's why I just use IE7.

Alot has changed, they're already into the 9.6x versions.

I hadn't tried either Opera nor Chrome, so I tried them out today. Chrome was nice, but too basic for me. I like Opera better. In fact, it could replace Firefox for me. Too bad it couldn't import everything (including passwords) from Firefox like Chome did.

I use firefox on my computers but on my parents old computer nothing works as well as Opera does, hell it runs as fast as IE 3.0 did over 10 years ago (on that same computer) which can't properly display many websites anymore.

Yeah, that's where Opera has a disadvantage. Google and Mozilla entered into a barganing agreement last year, which had Google having access to Mozilla technology. This enabled them to import Firefox features into their browser.

There would be that. I was dismayed when I realized what a resource hog both Internet Exploiter and Firefox are; the former moreso than the latter, but not by much. One machine I have that didn't come with enough memory (though it has a 1.6 gb processor) bogs way down if I try to play a game and listen to internet radio at the same time.

I use both interchangeably, sometimes at the same time - on my slow machine! I've never tweeked either browser. I'm going to give Opera a go, just to see if it allows me to listen to internet radio and play my computer games at the same time.

When you try to post, do you have to post at the top? Maybe you are ok with that but I'm not. heheh
It "moves" the quoted parts constantly as I am typing and that is very distracting/aggravating to me.
I downloaded Opera and installed it, but haven't really checked it out yet. It does consume MORE resources than either IE or FF, so I'm dubious. Maybe if I'd break down with my cheap azz and buy some more memory, that'd help. That and increase the page file size.
Just loaded up Opera. So far, can't tell the difference in functionality between FF and Opera. SOMD looks just the same. The tool bars are different, but other than that. I've got internet radio streaming in another tab, and that's working well. Oh, and I increased the page file, so we'll see.

You can go into the registry and resetup IE. Works sometimes for some issues not all though. How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378)

I don't see how it consumes more resources, it runs quite well on my mom's 600 Mhz Celeron with 128 meg of RAM.

I gave it the old "three finger salute" and the Task Manager in XP says it's using more resources than do IE or Firefox.
Having said that, it seems to run fine. Well, at least for what I do with it, which is spend more time than I need to on SOMD, email, and listen to internet radio.
I did have Opera crash the other day...can't remember what I was doing, but it's something I've done in both IE and FF...in fact, I had to complete my task using IE. I think it was printing out of boarding passes online, but not sure right now. Don't get old. It sucks.
