It's a Microsoft beta, if they supply the machine and pay me a fair amount, I'd care and beta test it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

its nothing special, anyone can paint an old car and try to sell it as new. pcs really won't change, I guess need to change until someone builds something new. xp and any pc from the last 5 years does everything 90% of all users need.

What Microsoft needs to do is release a completely new OS. One that is not compatible with XP or Vista. Start fresh and new. The only thing 7 is going to do is add more useless flare to vista.

No. Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2 are good operating systems. Build off those.

Are you kidding? They'd destroy their market. It's already bad enough that alot of programs compatible with XP and earlier aren't compatible with Vista, but they're working on correcting that mistake. COMPATIBILITY is why they are ahead of Apple. If they threw everything away then eventually their old stuff would be gone and every company would be "up for grabs" on whether they put their stuff on Microsoft or Apple. Microsoft would lose that battle based on the current trend. Ouch...unless they made an absolutely outstanding OS, that could be the death of Microsoft. Holy crap.

Never gonna happen.

What more could you really do with a computer, in terms of software & operating systems? Microsoft pretty much hit everything. The thing that Microsoft has better than everyone else is accessibility. Windows (be it XP or Vista) is so diverse and dynamic, that someone just starting out can point and click and master Windows in a few hours. The Windows core file is so deep that advanced users can spend all their time on Windows, and still not figure out/master everything that Windows has to offer. Compare that to Linux and Mac, where you need some computing knowledge to operate both (moreso Linux than Mac), Windows blows away the other market share.

Nope. Limiting themselves to continue developing off an OS that is 9 years old is useless. Vista showed us that. The only upgrade in Vista was Directx 10. The only upgrade in Windows 7 will be Directx 11. Everything else is just how cute and user friendly the GUI can become... which those of us that actually care about system performance go through and turn off anyway.

Start fresh and start new. Force people to go out and buy new components so that memory and cpu utilization stay low. Get rid of all the flare and cuteness. Make it raw yet still GUI based.

Then let all the corporations and non-computer geeks keep using XP.

But... either way it works out... Windows 7 will just be vista with a few perks (that will probably be worse having than not) with Directx 11, as vista is XP with a few perks (all of which are worse having than not).

Tell me, what exactly do you want out of an operating system? And Directx 10 wasn't the only thing that changed with Vista. Do you use Vista or just talking from all the BS that people published the first week Vista came out?

Theres already an OS like that, it's called Linux.

Yep, I use Vista. Triple boot with redhat and XP. The second I got it I disabled a majority of the crap that came with it. UAC, Aero, transparencies. Reverted everything back to run basically as Windows 2000.

I'm not saying Vista is a bad OS. I am saying it doesn't really have anything that is better than XP except Directx 10. Yes, there were changes between XP and vista. But none of them made it "better" than XP. Just different.

Exactly, and I use that. But most game companies dont make what I want available.

As soon as software companies start making the same software across all the systems, I will uninstall all Windows based OS'es and never turn back.

seriously. if u want to be a nerd then get a nerdy operating system. most people aren't computer nerds with nothing better to do than learn a computer, so the "flare" and "cuteness" is preferred by a vast majority of the population.

and Gwydion, you still haven't answered my question. What do you want from an operating system? What upgrades can you think of that would improve Windows?

I did answer you. A raw OS that has the software backings of windows.

I did answer you. A raw OS that has the software backings of windows.

and your solution is for windows to dump everything, including the coding required for its software backings (making everything incompatible with the new OS), so they can start fresh? wouldn't that potentially end their software backings? Maybe companies would take their products elsewhere

:yeahthat:
I say, give me all of the gizmos and gadgets, throw everything into a sandbox, and let me edit them to my required specs. I'd like the option to boot to the new Windows OS WITH all of the fancy-smancy pretty stuff if I've got a sudden urge to bog down my system, and then also have the option to boot to the same OS with JUST the required programs and features running if I want to game, edit video, etc.
I'm getting :hot: just talking about it.

But Locutus is as cynical as ever: (http://blogs.computerworld.com/windows_7_beta_blagged_by_bittorrent_bad_boys)

Too bad 2009 is going to be another year of hearing Microsoft lies and exaggerations regarding yet another Microsoft OS release. BFD, is what I say after 20 something years of the same junk year after year after year ... Though you may have smashed the OLPC and dashed their plans of helping millions of children, they kicked off a resurrection of the light weight small form-factor device you just can't compete on. IMO.

Windows 7 has the basic Kernel of XP - but the slick/smooth interface of Vista, with all the administrative plug-in and tools used to manage Server 2008... Vista really breaths after SP1 and the interface comes to life in a Server 2008 environment.

From what we have been told, Windows 7 is a blend of both XP and Vista... honestly, my Vista load is faster than my XP load - same machine...

Hmm well it looks nice ...... I wish there was a x64 Ver available ....

Let me check into it after the holidaze... remind me with an e-mail. :yay:
