For those of you who don't know, Sheehy Chevy and Dodge in Upper Marlboro (Route 4/Penn. Ave and Route 301/Crain Highway) is closing for good this week. So what dealership is next?

I saw the big sign a couple of weeks ago out front, was a bit surprised with the remodeling that they did to the building. Sheehy has many dealerships surprised that they would be closing that one.

Look like they didnt close the Chrysler Dodge Jeep side. All the vehicles are still there, they moved all the Chevy products to Marlow Hgts somewhere.

Yes.... very sad to see Sheehy Chevrolet go.... I bought several vehicles from there over the years. I did receive a letter in the mail forwarding me to Bayside Chevrolet in Prince Frederick.
I had my oil changed there this past week and my experience was one of the best I've had in a long time! Paul Hanna was excellent and their new service department (and waiting room) was clean and enjoyable. I am glad that we have a nice Chevrolet dealership right here in Calvert County that cares about there customers!
Walker Pontiac has closed too....not sure when but it was empty last time i passed through there.
What was the small GMC -Pontiac dealership on south bound side of 301 or maybe it is RT 3 up past Bowie? Very small place.

Thanks, I knew it had been there a while. I went through Saturday and it was closed up and looked like it had been for a while.
Looks like GM is closing down dealerships to reduce saturation. this is something they said they were going to do.

I guess I don't know how it works. How does GM close down a dealer?

Takes away the franchise or drops their quota so low they cannot make it.

Isn't that what happened to Bell's?

I believe it was. I think the dealers are told "You need to move XX inventory or we are pulling your franchise and your quota."
GM claimed one of their problems was too many dealerships.
I wonder is a great deal of their problems are warranty services.
You go in for a rattle or a squeek (pick a problem) within the warranty period. The dealership starts throwing parts at it until it finally is fixed. In the end the defective thingamabob ($45 with $30 labor) ended up costing GM$600.
I know that I had an A/C unit quit cooling much in year 3 of a warranty. Stopped in a dealer and they looked at it for 30 seconds and ordered a new compressor. The bill was paid but the sheet I signed showed they were charging GM almost $1500. For all I know they put in a can of freon.

I just heard they are closing the whole thing on April, No Dodge or Chevrolet.
Honestly I don't think Dodge will be around come 2010 anyway. If it is it will be a susidiary of a Japanese maker that will shuck most of the product line except the best sellers and the best plants.

I was just in there last Thursday and specifically asked about the Dodge side. They said there were no plans on closing anytime in the near future.
I guess that makes it a definite that they'll be closing soon.

Some of you may have seen it while traveling abroad.... but in Europe and especially here in Japan from what I've seen, the dealerships dont carry very many, if any, vehicles on the lot. It's all special order business.... i think that's the way it will end up going for many dealerships in the states...
Why carry it on the lot if you dont know if its going to sell, or in order to sell it, you have to drop the price point really low...
