Are there any computer experts that can help? My home computer has a virus or something that has messed up the registry giving me a Winsock error message. Now my computer cannot access the internet or stay connected. I have run ad-ware and spyware programs to clean, I bought and ran a system mechanic program to clean and repair the registry as well. Still, I am having no luck. I can log on, surf for a few minutes before the problem comes back and I cannot access the internet. I even followed directions from the Microsoft website to delete and re-boot the "winsock & winsock2" files from the registry and reload the TSP/IP (??? I think that's what it's called) and it still doesn't work. I have even downloaded the Regcure program online (when it was working), had the system scanned but need to purchase the program to complete the clean-up but I am concerned about those type of programs introducing different spyware/ad-ware onto my computer. Please help before I throw this thing through a wall...lol.

back-up your data and re-install the OS!

Right-click on Network Neighborhood, then Properties. Right-click on the icon that represents your Ethernet connection, and select Repair. It may not work, but it just might get you going again.

Download and scan with Malware Bytes Anti Malware Malwarebytes.org (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php)

Download Winsock Fix |MG| WinSock XP Fix 1.2 (http://majorgeeks.com/download4372.html)

Reboot, all should be normal.
