I just got a new lap top and the battery only last for about 1 1/2 hours
e-mailing and surfing the web. Watching video's with the Grand children
on the web like Disney or PBS Kids lucky if it last 1/2 hr. - 45 min.

I was wondering what is average time I should be able to get.

was it one of the $399 or $499 ones?

It's going to vary significantly depending on what you bought. There are expensive ones that don't last too long because they are overpowered, there are cheap ones that don't have very large battery capacity, and everything in between.

My other Lap Top is a Toshiba also Satalite paid 900.00 for it about 4 years
ago I didn't think the battery lasted long on it either after about 1 year
I used it pluged in because the battery was weak and the screen was
dim.

I do know the battery is a 6 cell.

I have a decent laptop and get lil use out of the battery. So I don't use it often.

I believe that is the lowest you can go, so there is a start as to why it doesn't last real long. :yay:
I have a 9-cell, and even in the beginning, it didn't last but a couple of hours MAX...from what I can recall (totally different type of laptop, though, 17 inch screen...not sure what size yours is).

My laptop cost me $1000, and my battery lasts maybe two hours at most.

I get 3 hours out of our new one. The old one gets about 2 1/2. They are both Gateways.

You can go to the Power Options control panel and from the Power Schemes drop-down, select Max Battery. It cuts the speed of your CPU which reduced power draw, as well as a number of other things. Don't forget to set it back to Portable/Laptop when you go back on line power.

I have a compaq Presario. Battery doesn't last long probably hour and a half maybe. I don't use the battery much at all.

I have a mac book, and usually am on for a few hours every night and I only have to plug it in every two days or so. but I do not watch movies, some youtube clips mainly just surfing.

Mac's are much better on battery consumption. I would recommend buying a upgraded batter for anyone concerned about batter life. My HP only lasts about an hour to 1.5 hours.

BTW, 1-3 hours is normal for laptop battery life.

My Acer Aspire laptop gets about 2 hours on a full charge. Its a 6 cell.
