I have a few documents that are split into multiple PDF's. I.e. each chapter is a seperate PDF file. I'd like to combine all these files into a single PDF document however I don't have a full version of adobe acrobat...

Are their other options?

Nope, you need the full version of Adobe. I have it at work. It's great.

You could always print then scan them into one document though.

Are their other options? If it's not personal stuff, you can email to me and I'd do it for ya. How soon do you need it? I could do it tomorrow evening.

http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/2.0/

"OpenOffice.org 1.1 introduced the PDF export feature. Version 2.0 now extends the basic export feature. With the new version it is possible to define the compression levels of embedded images. In addition, the PDF support now correctly handles thumbnail images and hyperlinks."

If you can copy and paste the data into an Open Office doc, you could create the new one with it. It's free software.

Then we'd have to call you BajaGenius, wouldn't we?

I'd have to see firsthand what exactly he's trying to do, but here's a bunch of free stuff:

 Thanks Badgirl

I don't have permission to release the docs. Gonna have to find another work around. Might end up picking up the full version if the open office idea doesn't work. Too tired to keep working on this though. Give it a shot later!

Thanks for the input!!

I don't know if you can edit PDF files with OpenOffice. I thought it was just exporting to PDF unless OO.org 3.0 can?

I'm thinking he is going to have to copy the text out of the .pdf, paste it into a Open Office document, then export it as a new .pdf.

How to join a PDF files in Linux.

* Use pdf2ps to convert the PDF files to ps files.

* Download psjoin (http://homepage3.nifty.com/tsato/tools/psjoin.html). Make sure to make it executable (chmod 755 psjoin) and place it in your path. In my case I put it in $HOME/bin, but you might want to place it directly in /usr/bin (sudo mv psjoin /usr/bin) or just use it as ./psjoin rather than psjoin. Up to you. (I write all this detail , because I know that this might be the rate-limiting step if you are a newbie to Unix. I have seen it with many people.
* Execute the following command:

psjoin file1.ps file2.ps (all your pages here) > mynewdoc.ps
* Convert your edited Postscript file to PDF:

ps2pdf mynewdoc.ps
* Open mynewdoc.pdf it in Acrobat Reader, evince, or xpdf and see if it is kosher. It should.

Enjoy!

That could work if the document is all text. One table and that wouldn't work.

I have a free .pdf program on my laptop at home. It does everything, including combining multiple docs into 1. I will post the name when I get to the laptop.
