Has anyone been camping at Westmoreland State Park in Virginia on Rt. 3? If so, how was it? Thinking about trying it but wanted to get opinions first. Is it crowded, etc? Would like to find a campground fairly close to the area but yet with semi-private campsites. Don't enjoy camping where you are lined up side by side on top of one another. Any ideas?

Went with a bunch of scouts. Nice place clean bath houses. Pretty roomy. Can get crowded on holiday weekends. Nice big pool near the river. Really nice for launching a kayak. Hope this helps.

I get a cabin there every summer. I've never seen the camp grounds crowded.
They have a nice big pool with a tube slide and diving board, fishing in the Potomac and hiking trails. The rangers usually have something going on a couple evenenings during the week. Lots of deer, we were chasing them on our bikes last year. You're only a few minutes from both Wahsington and Lee's birth places. There's a hot Korean babe that has a barbershop in Montross.

we drove thru the campground a couple years ago. It has very steep hills throughout. We didn't care for it but we've never stayed there.

We stayed for four days in a cabin last year. Had a great time. Matter of fact, we rented kayaks, first time ever trying them, and had a blast with those. Very nice facility. Not crowded at all.

We usually camp there at least once or twice each year. It's a nice place to camp and there are plenty of trees. Your not on top of each other like a lot of the other campgrounds that we have stayed at. There's also a set of steep stairs that you can hike to and walk down to the beach. It's always been very clean there also.

For those of you that are familiar with Westmoreland State Park, what are the best sites? Will be staying there in a 30 foot pop-up. Would like to have wooded site if possible for privacy so we are not on top of others.

We have stayed there many times. My husband and I enjoy it because it is quiet and relaxing. My 16 year old daughter doesn't because it is too quiet for her. She likes to have activities to do. We enjoy the big pool and the beach. Plus it is close to home, only about an hour away. Would highly recommend it.

We have stayed there. Sites are big. It is very quiet there. You can't really walk to the pool especially with little ones. The rangers make sure everyone is quiet. Oh and if you drink alcohol... stay somewhere else

We camp once or twice a year there – I have tons of pictures that if you’d like to see you can pm me. We enjoy it b/c it’s very close to home and the pool is nice. The downfall is that there aren’t full hook up sites – if that matters to you. My kids love walking to the cliffs (don’t climb on them) and playing at the beach area.

Thanks! We don't drink alcohol so that isn't an issue.
