Hi guys, I am a 25 year old guy who recently relocated to La Plata. I am an avid auto enthusiast who specializes in 1970's American cars. I do all my own engine and transmission builds, welding, body work, you name it. I am the type of guy who does not let shops work on my cars for any reason. When I do need specialized machines for tire mounting and balancing and alignments, I have found garages that would let me use their machines myself after hours. However, I am new to this area and don't have a hook up like this.
Are their any do it yourself auto hobby shops in southern MD where you can rent a garage bay that is furnished with lifts, tools, tire machines, etc? I know military bases have these, and some of them seem to be open to the public, but I am not all that close to any military base being in La Plata.
I still know a tech in Alexandria VA who lets me use the machines at his shop overnight, but if I can find somewhere closer that would be fantastic! I absolutely do not let other people touch my wheels because I am so often disappointed when they get damaged, and I am the type of person who loses sleep at night over stuff like this.
Thanks!!
Steve from La Plata

In highschool, my BF bought a 71 Nova to fix up and we took it to Willie's on 235. He let us use his tools and shop to do the bodywork so you may get lucky and find someone.:yay:
Good luck.

My ears are still on even though you replied to this OLD post of mine! The funny thing is I have since starting this thread, bought my own tire mounting and balancing machines after not finding anyplace to borrow some so the whole point of me having started this thread is defunct.
As far as car stuff other than tires, which I do for people to help out other enthusiasts, I don't typically work on other people's stuff, I have 5 cars and too many projects of my own. Thanks for your interest though
