Eight Formula One teams said on Thursday they would start preparations for a new series in 2010 after refusing to bow to the demands of the governing International Automobile Federation.

A statement said BMW-Sauber, Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toro Rosso and Toyota were united in the decision.

"It has become clear ... that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 world championship," the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) said.

Even better is when the oversized underengined cars waddle through a road course...

Give me small, light, fast and nimble cars on a road course any day over NASCAR on a roadcourse.

The two parties had been engulfed in a bitter row over planned budgetary and technical changes for the 2010 season.

But it appears a resolution has now been found and, as part of the deal, Max Mosley has agreed not to stand for re-election as president of the FIA.

"There will be no split, there will be one F1 championship. We have agreed to a reduction of costs," said Mosley.

"The objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early 90s within two years."

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone added that he was "very happy common sense has prevailed" following a meeting of 120 members of the FIA in Paris aimed at resolving the crisis.

So Ecclestone wins and Mosley's still there until the next election. :ohwell:
