I don't have the dreaded Red Ring of Death but ours is not working. Where can I take ours to get it fixed that won't break the bank?

Have you tried the Play 'N Trade in Lusby?

I was in the process of calling them when my husband just decided to rip it open himself. Surprisingly, even though he didn't fix anything, it's now working (atleast for the time being).

Hehe! Hubby sounds like me :)

If it breaks again, take it them. Tell them the tall bald guy said to treat you right or he'll feed them to his Dobermanns.

They'll probably laugh and toss you out on your butt since Harley has been in there and leaned on half the employees, but I'll get a laugh out of it next time I go in there and they tell me about you, haha!

We've determined it's the DVD drive and we can get a replacement (when we need it) off Amazon for less than it would cost to take it in. As of last night, it's still working. :keepingfingerscrossed:

You can get replacement parts from Llamma's Adventures in Xbox 360 (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/) They have all sorts of replacement parts, as well as cases controllers and mods (if that is your thing). Good luck.

its still easier just to send it in. its free if you are under warranty. and taking it to an unauthorized repair place may void your warranty.

+ mine had red rings symptoms but no red rings. i messed with it, red rings showed up. be careful

Get a PS3 or you'll be fixing your 360 again in a year.

My son wants an XBOX 360 for Christmas. What is the "ring of death"? Is it an issue with the older versions or is a potential problem for any model, new or old?

i'm confused on this one....what is wrong with their game lineup? and as far as online play goes?????? I fail to see how being free is worse than paying for the exact same thing?

I fail to see how being free is worse than paying for the exact same thing?Devs are still learning how to make games for PS3, not to mention they are saying PS3 is more difficult to make games for. As far as paying $50 a year for Xbox Live it is well worth it. The online community is much stronger on Xbox then PS3. I had a PS3 for 2weeks last Xmas and took it back. I couldn't play Lil BigPlanet online because of the lag being so bad.. It is is not the exact samething. It is much easier to play games with friends online with xbox then PS3.

different strokes i guess....as soon as PS3 came out i got rid of my 360 and haven't missed it...but I mostly play sports games and COD...as far as online goes I haven't ever really had a problem with it, but I hear from some people they do...I guess I just have to consider myself lucky.

Sounds like some issues at home with the lag situation. I've played the same game and dozens more with no issue whatsoever.

My brother has had his Xbox replaced 5 times over now. Many of the guys I play with who had Xbox's in the past and converted have similar stories. You get what you pay for and I'm not keen on paying for junk in a box.

Dust is building up on that nice little blu-ray player.

Guess different strokes for different folks then.

I didn't really use my blue ray when I first got the PS3 but once I started using it I couldn't see a reason going back to regular old DVD's. Blue ray is amazing!

I have a 360 and Im terrified of it getting screwed up. I treat it like its made of glass. The first week I had it I nudged it a bit while I had a brand new game in it and it scratched a ring and made the disc unreadable.

Pissed me off so bad I had to replace the game because Microsoft would only refund my game for up to a petty amount (and it was gonna take a while) and I was already into it. Sooo where was I going with this?? Oh! I prefer 360 over PS3
I cant get past PS3's controllers... and now that I can connect to Netflix with my Xbox im really happy with it..as long as no one touches it. :starcat:

My Xbox 360 Dvd drive quit working. I bought an exact replacement for it on line.
I know that the Xbox 360 is designed so that the DVD drive works only with the particular game console it is installed in. Replacing a defective DVD drive with a replacement DVD drive does not work, since the replacement has a different DVD drive key, which the game console won't accept

The new PC board will have to be "Flashed" with the serial number. Toget around the Flash problem, I removed the PC board from bad unit and installed on new unit but it still did not work. I took it to Play 'N Trade in Lusby to have it fixed. It came back and they said they need to original PC board to get a code from it. The original board was already installed in the new unit.

Any ideas of where I can take it to so it can get fixed?
