Has anyone bought their own propane tank to save on the delivery price? Or should one just get the tank from the supplier?

We had a 100gal. tank that was rented, but when we put our pool with a heater in, we bought a 500gal. tank and had it buried in the yard. We had to stay with the company we bought it with for a year, but then we were free to switch. It does significantly decrease the $/gal., however I would have to say that you have to work out the cost-benefit for yourself based on your usage. I would call a couple of propane companies and see what it would cost to buy the tank and the cost difference. Then you can figure out if it is worth it.
