Senate Panel OKs Abortion Coverage in Health Care Bill, Senator Forced to Admit

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- During a Senate committee meeting on Friday, a leading pro-abortion senator was forced to admit that one of the health care bills pending in the Senate will include abortion coverage. After the admission, the Senate panel voted to include abortions in that version of a national health care plan.

Three pro-life senators used Thursday's Senate HELP Committee meeting to force the leadership's hand on its agenda of including abortion in a public health care plan.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, stammered her way through an explanation of an amendment to the health care bill that would cover abortion.
When pressed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, she admitted that her language would force health insurance companies to contract with abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.

Hatch asked, "Would this include abortion providers? I mean, it looks to me like you're expanding it to... for instance, Planned Parenthood. Would that put them into this system?"

"It would include women's health clinics that provide comprehensive services and under the definition of a woman's health clinic, it would include, uh, it would include, uh, Planned, uh, Parenthood clinics. It would, um, it does not expand in any way expand a service," Mikulski responded. "In other words, it does not expand, um, uh, or mandate abortion service."

Mikulski admitted that the bill "would provide for any service deemed medically necessary or medically appropriate" and pro-life advocates point out the Obama administration could easily declare abortions medically necessary or appropriate.

Later during the hearing, Hatch asked Mikulski if she would be willing to support making the bill abortion neutral in exchange for support for the bill. She would have none of it.Hatch asked, "Madam Chairman, would you be willing to put some language in [about] not including abortion services? Then I think you would have more support."

She responded, "No, I would not, uh, be willing to do that at this time."

With congressinal representation like Babs and Steny, we can all be proud.

OF COURSE an Obamacare bill would include abortion provisions. Was there ever a doubt? Time to waste time sending my Senators another e-mail they will ignore.

But she will send me back a condescending e-mail about how she is supporting Obama in his efforts to clean up the massive amount of pregnancies they inherited from the Bush administration.

After reading this I believe that most of us can see that contacting our midget Senator about the health care bill, or for that matter practically anything else is a misrable waste of time.

What we need to do is get rid of her, by voting her out of the Senate as soon as possible. Unfortunately that is easier said than done. As St. mary's County is just a small insignificant part of the big Democrat machine that is Maryland.

You are absolutely right, but...

The pointlessness of contacting them, never stops me. Unfortunately, every time I compose an e-mail to them, I bit more bitternness creeps out.

But writing to them is a form of cleansing. Here is what I just sent to Babs:

Sen Mikulski,

I have recently learned of your amendment to include abortion coverage in the health care bill. I'm writing to beg you to reconsider this.

My household contains 3 working VOTING members and we DO NOT want American tax payers paying for abortions.

The healthcare bill as it is bring described is already doomed to failure due to the irresponsible spending of the CURENT administration and their tools in the both houses of the Congress.

Please do not support a healthcare bill that will continue to bankrupt this great nation. Adding abortion coverage to this bill adds insult to injury.

This is one family of three that will be strongly supporting challengers to any Democrats in future elections.

Your refusal to represent the people of America and Maryland is just disgraceful. I know I don't need to remind you that you are elected to represent the people of the Old Line State. You serve at and for the will of the people here.

Please concentrate your efforts on getting the people of America and Maryland back to work. Fixing the economy by reducing taxes and giving real incentitives to American business and the people will get the economy moving much faster than the FRAUD, WASTE, and ABUSE the Obama administration and the Congress is perpetrating with the unanswerable spending they think is the cure for everything.

Please do not condemn future generations of Americans with financial burdens that will continue to destroy the prosperity of the United States of America.

Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,

As I noted before - if you get elected to the House or Senate, your chances of being removed are very meager.

This past time in the Senate was slightly unusual (although 2006 was highly unusual). Of 28 incumbents who ran, 23 were re-elected, or 82%. In 2004, only ONE of 25 incumbents were defeated (96%). In 2002, 24 of 27 incumbents were re-elected (88%).

I'm beginning to see the wisdom of term limits. Not having term limits is like letting last year's Super Bowl champ play all their future games at home.

Nice analogy. I often wish we had a system like British Parliament where we could call for a vote of "No-Confidence". Maybe not on a national level, but certainly within the state. I absolutely agree with term limits, also. Write to Babs, Ben, and Steny and ask them to introduce a bill for it. :killingme:
