Fan is frozen. That needs attention at a minimum. Check for any obstructions in the fan unit (after you turn it off...). I had a big ol' black snake stuck in mine once.

That happened to me. Replace the fan motor yourself its cheaper. Hancocks wanted $365. I did it myself for $80, plus allot of knuckle scraping.

Ouch, I believe just for the technician to show-up it's over $100.00

Thanks guys, I'll check-it out, unix-p where did you purchase the motor? I know AIRECO carries a wide variety of motors.

If it's just the fan motor that's stuck, try gently persuading it to turn by hand, and lube it with wd-40 until it's free. If you can do that, spray some lube into the top of the shaft so hopefully some of it gets into the bearing. Might buy you a bit of time, but it will need to be replaced.

Wengars Electric Motors in Loveville. Take it with you and they will match it up. They try to help over the phone but it's easier to take it to them.

Take a picture of the specs and go to the supply house..much easier.

If your aux. light is on it seems as though your heat is being called on. Sounds like you have a problem in your control circuit. 1 of 3 things to start with; either you have a problem with your tstat, a short in your low voltage wiring or you have a bad defrost board on your HP.

Yeah, the Aux heat light being on is perplexing, thanks for the advice!
I guess I could buy a bare bones T-stat for troubleshooting...

First take off the cover to the outside unit and see if the reversing valve is what is humming, if so and your aux. light is on then your problem is a control problem and you may be wasteing your time and money if you get a motor. When you have the cover off take a look at the contactor and see if it is pulled in. Kinda hard to trouble shoot without looking at it but it is very unlikely that you have more than one glitch in the system, not saying you dont but usually you wont have more than 1 thing wrong unless you have "a friend" fix it for you. Your humming noise may be normal. If your contactor isnt pulled in, push it in and see if your fan starts, seen alot of posts on here assuming your fan is bad.
