GTFO the WAY!!!!!! Really. just now, coming down GMR, behind the ambulance that had pulled out of the rescue squad by the car wash, lights, no sirens. As I approach the light, I see hes stopped at the red, which seemed odd, as he had lights on. I figure he's just pausing long enough to make sure he's clear, as is wise there.

Nope, he's behind a young man in a small red car, maybe a Suzuki Aerio. AS I'm taking a right, I stop and look over. He seems oblivious, I honk my horn, and gesture behind him..... he looks back, then points at the light and throws his hands up, as if to indicate he cannot move. I gesticulate a bit more, and he gets the clue, creeping far enough into the intersection to let the ambulance through.

True, but I know someone who did move into the intersection and got hit.

You are only supposed to move if you can do so safely. Maybe the ambulance driver didn't think he could get out of the way safely, so he turned his siren off.

It was safe, there was lots of room for the small car, if nothing else, he could have just hung a right turn onto Chancellors. Sorry, I did neglect to say

"GTFO the way when its safe to do so"

When I was living in New Orleans I was in heavy traffic in the laft lane and a cop came up behind with lights and siren on. I pulled up on the grass center median giving him clear path in my lane. He got on his bull horn and told me I was supposed to pull to the right to let him pass, not pull to the left. He refused to go past me until I pulled off the center median, crossed both traffic lanes, and pulled onto the right shoulder. Pure genius.
