Check out youtube to see what is happening to these cars as they are traded in. Hard to believe 2 quarts of sodium silicate can do so much damage so fast.:twitch:

And btw, what they are doing to these cars is abhorrent to me.

nope, they want NOTHING that will help people maintain these "clunkers". They want them all to buy new to "stimulate" the economy don't ya know. Why give a perfectly good 01 jeep cherokee with 54k miles to a working single mom thats on welfare to help her get to work so she can get off the crap? Naaaa....lets instead destroy everything and pile it into a landfill. Sounds like a great plan.

I knew they were scrapping the cars.. I just thought they would at least strip them for parts.

This program can't die fast enough for me.

That's what I was getting at. Watch the video of the green Volvo they destroy. That would have made a decent car for someone who couldn't afford one.

The other thing that burns me is that if they are trying to save Detroit why are they letting this program also apply to foreign manufacturers? This plan fails big time.

Wirelessly posted (Change we can believe in!: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.7) 320x240; VZW; Motorola-Q9c; Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard)

I wonder what is more "green" - keeping a "clunker" running, or refining the raw materials, casting and making parts, and building new cars.

I bet this ends up just like DDT, flourescent bulbs, and the CFC replacements - the cure is worse than the original disease.

Some of these cars are salvageable. They don't all deserve to be destroyed.

These morons in DC want to put two billion more of our tax dollars into this. They are calling this a success. What's so successful about putting the country another 2 billion into debt. :banghead: What don't these idiots understand about "you don't spend what you don't have." Don't know who said it, but pretty soon, "our money won't be worth the paper it's printed on."

My cars American!!!!!!

1. Engine built in Mexico
2. Body built in Canada, along with final assembly
3. Transmission built in Kokomo, IN, with prgramming from Germany

As for scrapping the cars, they seize the engine, but leave the rest. Only problem is, recyclers say that A huge proportion of the value in a junk car is the motor, and they dont want to take the damn things.
