View Full Version : Car Problem Question..
Ok.. my car has in the dash - the little car that shows if the doors are open and it has the oil life and the MPG and all that kinda stuff.. (not in the dash where the MPH and all that is, its in the center) well its been blacking out (just started last week).. and then mid last week - when it kicked off - it took the whole ac, vent, heat all that area off with it.. the radio would play but all that went off...it runs ok.. had the battery checked, the alternator checked, computer test to see if any codes came out - nothing. Took it to this 1 guy and he said he checked the grounds and the harnasses and all that - nothing.. he said it could be the thing in the dash that shows the car itself and whatever.. that sound right? what exactly is that called? I have no idea what its called to even try to look up the part to buy it?!?! Thanks for any info..

More than likely it is called an "information center" and if it sits on top of your a/c control unit and radio they could be tied in together on the same circut, fuse or relay. Look in your owners manual if you have one and check the fuses and relays. Good luck
Yeah the "Info ctr" sits on top the dash, then the radio, then the ac and all that controls are on the bottom.. radio on a different circuit? cause that keeps playing? Thanks for the great info.. I'm gonna check and see how much thats gonna cost :ohwell:

Look for a fuse (in car panel, olcated near the glovebox, evidently, in the location marked "display", it evidently controls those things in addition to the DIC "Driver Information Center". Dont just look at it, swap it with another of that amperage to be sure.
Heres a great place for Grand Prix owenrs, a whole forum just for your car:)

May be just a loose connector going to it.
Thanks for the GP forum - I just registered..

Welp.. I finally found someone to fix the car.. after calling several places in Waldorf and NEVER getting 1 phone call back - after leaving a couple of messages, beeping them, paging them, calling their cell - Not 1 call back! So finally found someone (after talking to a mechanic online for Pontiacs!!!) they suggested having a voltage drop test on the ignition switch and sure enough, it came back it was the switch.. it feeds the info ctr and the ac.. Yeah nothing too major!!
UPDATE: It was just as the Mech I talked to said - ignition switch.

Ive got a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix also with 60K, and we are having several issue's also. Power window drivers door will at times stop going up and down, gas gauge stop registering the amount of gas. Door locks with remote has gone wacky. Car runs great just all these little annoying things starting to pop up.
