This morning I bought (at vitaminshoppe.com):
Avocado Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Raw Shea Butter
Feverfew (liquid)
Grapeseed Oil
Pure Vitamin C Powder
Sunflower Oil
Organic Castile Soap
Pure Vegetable Glycerin
The idea is to make my own organic face cream, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. I've been using olive oil with tea tree oil as a moisturizer for awhile. Switched back recently to a face cream I got from Sephora and promptly broke out all across my forehead.
Once I receive my ingredients, it will be time to start mixing potions until I come up with the perfect blend.

I think we should have ladies days experimenting with stuff like that. With a few drinks in us, who knows what wonderful concoction we could come up with!

I think that's a great idea! Much better than that dumb idea Larry came up with above.
I've also been using honey and sugar as a face scrub, and I like it a lot better than the stuff you buy commercially.

"Feverfew" Do you even know what that is? It was invented by NASA and was used by the Greeks to burn holes in the walls of Troy and give themselves erections lasting longer than four hours.

Also, I got a pedicure the other day which I generally do myself. The girl told me the best moisturizer for your feet (heels especially) is castor oil. :yay:

No but I use Basics soap and a wash cloth to wash (2xs a day) and Triderma (sp?) lotion (made with virgin aloe, its good but stinks to high heaven!). I recently had a terrible break out which I thought was poison ivy. After a few weeks of it I doubt that was it. I think my skin is just getting super sensative.

Mine wasn't. :cds: The name of the soap is Basis not Basics. The face lotion isn't cheap at all but it cleared me up really nicely. Let me know how it works, MK and I toyed with making our own soap. I agree that the less chemical crap you put on your skin the better.

It works really well, but I stopped using it. It's made with lots of cocoa butter (which, duh, smells like chocolate). Combine that with the essential oil we picked (lime, because it smells fresh and clean), and we had chocolate lime arm pits. :lmao: A little weird.
I would like to find a different recipe. One without cocoa butter. :lmao:

I heard that term today for the first time. What is that?
BadGirl

I heard that term today for the first time. What is that?Basically, you take a long hollow cone - maybe 14 inches long, and made of a sturdy piece of linen - and place the pointy end at the entrance to your ear. Light the other/wide/open end of the cone with a match. The heat is supposed to draw up impurities and ear wax into the linen cone, and out of your ear canal. You don't let the cone burn all the way down....seems you burn it to within 4 or 5 inches of your ear.
I've never tried it. But I'm intrigued.
Bubba has the dirtiest ears of anybody I've ever met. I was thinking of trying it out on him to see if it would clear out his ears better than a Q-tip, but I'm unsure if he'll even sit still long enough to try it out on him. I might need to try it when he's napping.
You can see demo's of car waxing on YouTube.

However, I do love the smell of Jergen's original lotion. (cherry almond) I've used it for my whole adult life, because I love it so much.

I have too but it really does nothing for you.... this is one of those things that I will not argue with Drs about, it's kind of harmful.... so is cleaning your ear canals out with q-tips.... you should be seen by a Dr for that sort of thing, I for one don't want to mess with my hearing, it's already bad.

Potion recipes:
Face wash
3 T pure castile soap
1 tsp pure vitamin C powder
3 drops feverfew
1 tsp avocado oil
Face moisturizer
1/2 T raw shea butter
1/4 C hot water
3 drops feverfew
1 T glycerin
1 tsp pure vitamin C powder
2 tsp avocado oil
Keep in mind that I'm 45 years old and my skin is fairly dry, hence the avocado oil.
Vitamin C: anti-aging properties; increases collagen; anti-oxidant.
Feverfew: anti-inflammatory; reduces redness and irritation.
Avocado oil: repairs sun damage; increases collagen; contains a host of vitamins, including potassium and beta-carotene.
Both are unscented because my essential oils haven't arrived yet. Well, I mean, they have a scent, but it's what we women typically know as "unscented" in skin care products.
The face wash feels good. Light lather, but not drying at all because of the avocado oil. My face felt clean afterward.
The moisturizer is a little greasy. I don't mind it because I'm used to pure olive oil, but next batch I'll probably back off the avocado oil a bit or water it down more. It's also a liquid and not a cream, but that doesn't bother me either.
Ooh! I can't wait until my oils come in so I can scent them!!
