I was approached today by 2 guys selling magazines. We live in CRE. One claimed to be from OH. Someone selling them in the Spring came to our Apt in Lex Park so I knew their sh peal. When we lived in PA our community had issues with this same type of thing. The van would drop them off and they would pretty much camp out there all day. Our elderly neighbors felt bad for them and ordered $100's of dollars in magz and received nothing. One guy actually tried to push himself into one of our neighbors house. (until he realized her husband was in the living room)

Do these people frequent CRE? I know that these companies hire anyone including convicts to do this type of thing so I am a little uneasy knowing that these characters are running around. I know I sound like a paranoid idiot to some people but we have 2 kids.

I think they frequent everywhere. Our neighborhood has a 'no soliciting' sign up but they have no disregard for that. They've came by twice in the last year or so... and yes, one guy we had was very pushy. I kept telling him NO and he kept trying and trying to get me to order (not so much get into the house... but he was very pushy about ordering and giving $$ right then)

I ended up pretty much shutting the door on him - I just got tired of saying no and being ignored. Both of the times we had people at our door, they said it was some fundraiser for their college expenses :killingme Ha. If that was legitimate/honest every parent would have their kid out selling magazines door to door... :killingme

Last week I saw a van load of them at a local fast food resturant.

Even without seeing them I knew exactly what they were selling. With their white shirts and ties. I was hoping the whole magazine scam thing had died off.

They are very pushy most of the time. They said something about points and a trip and getting money for college. I don't like to judge a book by it's cover but in all my past experiences dealing with these people I cannot see them as honest hard working college bound students. The people that I always get at my door are tattooed, look at least lower to mid 20's, and wreak of cigarette smoke. I thought we have a no solicitation policy but I was not sure.

It's a scam. I'm not even civil to them when they come banging on my door. I threatened the last one.

If you live in CRE - call the Main Office 410-326-3182 and report them. Give a description of the van and plate # . They will have the police put a stop to it right away. Security will intervene and keep and eye out since they patrol the neighborhood and they'll get the police involved. Call as much as you have to. The police have come in the past and the solicitors went elsewhere.

:yeahthat:

No soliciting allowed in CRE. Now, I don't report the little kids trying to sell whatever school crap that is being pushed, but the scraggly punksters get told to scram.

If i don't know you i don't open the door. Bad experience with these people. I be damned if they force there way in my house and kill my family.

I'm new here and semi-new to the forum...but please tell me what CRE is. I know it's off topic, but I've googled it and still cannot find out what it is.
TIA

Please keep in mind that there are no "estates" in the Ranch Club. Just the newest stupid name for the community originally known as the Chesapeake Ranch Club.

I do the same thing, lol. I asked a question once and and a couple smart a**es tried to make me look like an idiot. I am reluctant to ask anything on here anymore. Most people are nice and have good info though. Welcome to the area. We are newer here too.

Thanks to everyone for answering my question.

Ummm... my mom and dad met at Chesapeake Ranch Club back when it was still an exclusive "club" and not an open housing project...

I remember as a kid the sign at the gate said something like "Chesapeake Ranch Club, Where East Meets West". The bay beaches were called 1st beach and 2nd beach as they didn't have names.

I may have to post this in another forum but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know the percentage of houses that are being rented in CRE? I don't want to be the type of person that puts blame on renters for being the problems in the neighborhood. I know not all renters are irresponsible and well...kind of ghettoish...sorry, don't know how else to describe it. However I've lived in neighborhoods that were nice then HUD bought houses for low income, owners rented to section 8, and even regular renters moved in and it was one of those, "there goes the neighborhood" situations. The cops were ALWAYS there, people were fighting, trash piled up on their porches and driveway, music was blasting at all hours, etc. I would like to think most people who spend money to buy a house they have pride and are more motivated to take care of it. Where if people are renting SOMETIMES they don't care because they think, "well I'm moving out anyway soon, it's not my house." I may be way off base with that type of thing in CRE, I just know what I've experienced in my home state.
