The converted Neon can drive 30 miles on a full charge
Might be why there's no directions for building one

I think alot of people could work with that mileage, or less, for an around-the-town car. I just think that the price he shelled out vs the performance stinks.

No kidding, you can make to Waldorf, where your trapped for the recharge time........
$15K total, and you get a 30mph range, and no heater, and auxillary power systems (steering and brakes) that have been cobbled together, with who knows what reliability.
I do love the part about his wife, she drives an inefficient car, but one that actually can do the job......unlike his efficient one, that cant.

I have the book mentioned under Recommended Reading. Had a vendor all lined up for the parts, too, but I can't find them. Guess they went bust.
It's something I'd really like to do as a project car.

Here's another site, and it's a current (updated 8/8/09) modification. (http://www.northrim.net/wyanders/ev/)

If I could find batteries that would support 150 mile range @ 65 MPH I would do it.

But where would the batteries go? Trailer out back?

The nice thing is; the more batteries you add, the longer your range. I had a Mazda B2200 pickup (all Mazda, pre-Ford version) all lined up for the project. Lightweight, manual tranny, no power anything, and a long bed version, room for as much or as little the number of batteries I wanted. The kit I was looking at had a 100 mile range and tops speeds of 90mph.
And then life throws you a curve..... had to sell it.
Aw well. maybe someday.

Put them under the hood of that beast. Plenty of room.

Bottom line currently inner city cars only. drive them 10 - 15 miles one way to work and home and then charge them up over night. But the price of the technology is still to high. Just think if you had one and wanted to drive to FL.
