I grow lots of mushrooms but don't think I'll be eating them. They are growing on my manure pile. Someday I would like to grow the eating variety.

How do you do it? (grow them)

I believe it's a 'kit'. I've seen them in magazines. I've thought about trying them.

Real easy. I got some plugs and drilled a few holes in an oak tree I cut down kept them in the woods so they had shade and watered them now and again with the hose. Google shiitake mushroom plugs.

Cool. I googled the kits and found this. Shiitake Mushroom Logs | Shiitake Mushroom Logs, Grow Your Own Shiitake Mushrooms - New (http://shiitakemushroomlog.com/)
Kinda expensive.

Buy the plugs and do your own logs. I had about 75 plugs and have 5 logs about 6-8 inches in diamater and 5 feet long fruiting after about 18 months

Did that a few years ago with the kit. Peat cylinder about the size of a gallon jug, pre-loaded with spores. Just keep it watered and you get 'shrooms! After the first batch, you let it dry, then water again and get more. You can do that a couple of times.
