I heard this on DC101 driving into work this morning.
If your kids are in school and you find out the teacher does porn during the summer for work would you take your kids out of her class even if she's a good teacher???

If she keeps it out of the classroom, no problem. And if she's hot, I'd have to get the movies!
I'd monitor the situation, make sure nothing inappropriate happens, etc.
No different than my son being in a class with a gay teacher. As long as he doesn't tell the kids about his "life partner" or indoctrinate them, who cares? Just something to monitor.

Teachers are suppose to be role models, and while i dont see anything wrong with porn (hell we all know i love it!) i wouldnt want that to be my childs role model. Yes, the teacher can keep it out of her class all she wants, but its going to go around school.
Playing devils advocate....
Would i rather have my childs teacher be ...
a) a great teacher, always going the extra mile, but a porn star
b) a so-so teacher, not bad, but doesnt go the extra mile, and not be a porn star/stripper/etc.

Interesting spin K, with what you said I would rather my son have a GREAT teacher. Good teachers are all over and for the most part the majority of them are good; a GREAT teacher are the shining stars where even the students want to be in their class, these are far and few between.
Like Bacon said as long as it was kept out of the classroom I could care less. :yay:

That is a stretch. Even if she was NOT a porn star, would the daughter want to become a teacher?
I have a few people in my life who have had a positive influence on me (outside of family) who were teachers. To this day I respect what they did/still do and still stay in contact with them. I place them on a pedestal and admire them for what they do for the children in our community.
That admiration on my part would still never drive me to do what they do as I was taught to be my own person based on who clevalley is, not someone else. I can thank my parents for that.

Yep. 99.9% of people have something in their past that you could dig up and say they aren't a "good role model." All teachers had to go to college, and who doesn't do wild things there?
As long as they keep personal and professional lives separate, and aren't breaking laws, they should be treated just like everyone else. Judge them on their ability to do their job. Then watch the movies and judge them on their acting ability.

In elementary school, most kids are too young to realize much about porn. So I don't really think it would affect them much. Parents may figure it out, but the kids are what's important...and as long as they don't know, no harm no foul.
But by middle school, kids know about porn. If they stumble on the teacher, it can only go downhill. I think it's a bad idea for the teacher to do anything "inappropriate" that students can easily discover that'd be a negative influence. Drinking and partying to some extent is one thing (ideally students won't find out about that either), but there are lines that obviously need to be drawn.
So for elementary school, not a big deal. After that, it's probably a bad idea cuz a kid is bound to find out and spread it around.

You realize the parents of today's elementary schoolers probably have their own collection of home made porn, right? Sexuality has become so mainstream that it's almost become a joke... so a middle schooler is just as likely to pop in a video of mom and dad as they are a teacher.

The only problem i can forsee is students believing that because she does this, they can get away with bad behavior..like oh my teacher screws for a living who is she to tell me I can't text in class..I saw that one with her and that cell phone..and hey mine is on vibrate too...:killingme I don't think it would bother me much...but I think it could get very distracting. imagine trying to learn algebra when you just saw your teacher in a movie in a nurse's outfit bent over an ekg machine...

I think as long as the teacher was discrete and not talking about it, fine. I actually don't have issues with the porn industry. Teachers don't get paid that well to begin with anyway. Also, the kids shouldn't be finding her porn anyway if they are monitored on the internet correctly. Although teenaged boys in their rooms after school can be tricky with all their handy work...to say the least.
If you are talking about the FL Bio teacher, I think it was wrong for the school to fire her. You can't tell me the male faculty didn't investigate it for themselves. I also don't think the courts should have taken her kids from her. As long as she isn't taking them to work with her, neglecting them, etc.

Sure. I don't care about the parents and what they think. It's about the students. I said a middle schoolers look at porn, but not necessarily the case for an elementary school kid. But who cares about what is available to a kid via their parent's personal collection? There's this thing called the internet that's available to kids at young ages too.

Teachers don't get paid enough for the shiat they put up with, many take a second job or work in the summer and if that's what they need to get by, so be it. There have been worse teachers that weren't porn stars, my first grade teacher was a catholic nun, she pulled hair, hit us with the yard stick and the pointer, threw our desks, jacked us up against the wall.... that wouldn't fly these days but she had to have been the worst teacher ever.

They should have never been able to fire her. Kids see women in bathings suits at the pools, beaches, etc. Also it is in FL for goodness sakes. This just confirms my belief that schools over step their boundaries way too much.

Only 7 morally upstanding citizens. What a surprise. :rolleyes:Interesting way to phrase it.
Personally, when speaking of a public school, I would say it is not an easy decision. Is there a clause in her contract that requires she not do something like this? Does it effect her ability to maintain proper order and discipline in the class? Does she bring the concepts of her moonlighting job into her day job?
If the answers to these things are all "no", then by what rights could someone reasonably object?
On the other hand, were it a private school, I would expect there to be a clause in the hiring of teachers that forbids such behavior. I would also expect that the morals (vice the reasoned legalities) would have a proper place in making determinations of employment.

Good nurse, good teacher. At the end of the day, people do what they do and if they are known to be good at their profession, without qualifications, then that means, by definition, that they do not let their hobbies and extra curricular activities interfere with their job.
As in;
She's a good nurse BUT she keeps trying to get the freshman class to do a film with her.
Or
She's a good nurse when she's not stoned.
The question was; good teacher. I'm good with that. :buddies:

On paper I could probably say that it's her business. As a person who's not blind to human nature if it were my kid I'd have a problem with it for a couple reasons.
#1 - Taking home video/pictures for personal use is one thing. I watched a documentary on the porn industry once and while I can't remember what the exact numbers were it said that 99% of porn stars/actors make very little money. I remember because I was young and making squat and I made more than they reportedly made. So the doing it for extra money because they don't make much as a teacher is pretty much invalid. So if she's not doing it for money she is doing it for other reasons which leads me to...
#2 - While I've personally never known a porn star I have known and been personal friends a couple strippers. IMHO, same industry so my personal experience is relative. I had a girlfriend once upon a time that waited tables at Good Guys in DC. I was up there often and got to know a few of the girls there. There were very few that were in it for the money. The majority of them were pretty far out in left field and had a good deal of emotional baggage. My brother dated a stripper for a while who was downright gross personality wise and I'd known her since middle school. A couple other girls I knew from my youth that I'd run into and talk to on occasion. Every one of them had some kind of "issue". I'm not judging what they do and why they do it but I would not want any of them to teaching my child/children on a daily basis.
Porn stars can be porn stars all they want and for whatever reason but if that is the choice that they make then I personally would not them to have regular interaction with my kids.

 this is pretty true...I know enough teachers and think to myself "dang I wonder if MY teachers did this stuff". But hey, they are all professional in the classroom so that's where it counts. If teachers were fired for too much partying/drinking, private sex tapes, naughty pictures, or other stuff...there'd be far fewer teachers than there are currently.

You make some valid points, but I think money is a huge factor, because every porn star I've ever known (1) made pretty decent money. When I first moved out I lived with two roommates and one of them was a porn star. He made enough money in one shoot to pay his rent for two months, although he hated doing it to come up with the money. He was a full time student and was porno-ing his way through school.

Not necessarily, but a documentary can say whatever it is they want to say  Prime example, Farenheit 9-11. For any statistic you want, all you have to do is find someone to answer in your favor and be willing to do it on camera. Everyone has a story they're willing to tell, and they can play up their story for maximum dramatic effect... and then all they have to do is find a documentary maker who's willing to share their dramatic and tragic story.
Or maybe my roommate was just a highly paid porn star and an exception to your documentary.

They can make a few hundred a pop. I just did a wikianswer search to get numbers and they actually said $500 for a scene but can make 1000-1500 range if you "do more". Another site has salaries starting lower but reaching similar ranges depending on what you do. I think the problem is actually getting the work, since most of them don't really get much. A few hundred bucks won't go very far if you can only get a few scenes a month, but if you have low rent then doing certain scenes could possibly cover a couple months rent at school if you're getting in the $600-800 range for a shoot. It doesn't have to be much. You can both be right
