Is it possible to add more PCI Slots and Serial Ports to a Computer where you already have all slots full?

To clarify. I would like to have about six souncards and add cards to give me about 15 RS232 ports to one computer.

Currently I have 2 soundcards and one Graphics Card. The Graphics card actually takes up Two Slots. Installed but would love to have more on one machine. Is there some sort of EXTERNAL contraption I could bring into play. Somethins akin to a sisterboard for the primary motherboard? I am assuming it would need to ne External.

The way I do it currently I have 3 desktops and 4-5 Laptops doing all that I need to do but I kind of want to give two of the Low End desktops to my two boys.

There are USB to Video monitor adapters which would free up a PCI slot. Also USB to serial ports.

I have looked into the USB to Serial Ports deals but there appears to be some weaknesses involved when trying to use them with the radios. Most of the folks I know that have tried tend to revert back to straight Serial Ports connections. Something to do with the transfer rates not jiving.

I was thinking something more to the effect of a SISTER Tower of some sort but This is above my skill level so I figured I would start off doing some research for a while.

i would not buy usb to serial... to many issues.. IMO...

i use rs-232 on the regular... only thing i could think of jeff and it would be expensive is getting an amx box, with the cards that have the rs-232 capabilites...

GW: i checked out what you posted... would be an eh okay solution if he has a rack

I suggested the USB to Vid adapter in thoughts of removing the video card and freeing 2 slots for multi-port audio cards.

Thats looks to be what I am after. Thanks. Just couldn't seem to come up with the right search terms to use to find anything.

I'll do some research on that thing and find something similar. Cost is MUCH less than what I expected. I'll shoot an email to the folks that own this fancy software that I use and see if that would jive with everything. They do allot of GOV./Commercial work so if that won't do it I bet they can point me to something that does.

Thanks again. At least I have some relevant search terms to use.

But 7 PCI slots in addition to what I already have would most certainly fill the bill. They way it looks I wouldn't to buy anything else to support it.

Yep, I am with you. Just had not looked into those at all as yet.

No Rack, but with my setup here I can and do see one coming at some point.

This would be about your only good option. The extender (IME) do not work well.
