Do NOT buy Poulan brand chains for your saw. They SUCK! :tantrum

I had 9 trees dropped in my yard Friday a week ago. Spent this past weekend cutting them up. 3 oak, 1 maple 5 poplar. Bought a brand new poulan chain Saturday morning. Made 3 cuts through a 2' diameter poplar and was dull as could be. Wouldn't have been able to cut hot butter.

Went out that afternoon and bought an Oregon chain. Night and day difference.

When I quit cutting Saturday morning, My father-in-law and I had cut up 1.5 poplars and 2 oaks. Saturday evening w/ Oregon chain I cut everything else without stopping except for 3 cuts on a 30" diameter poplar. Put the 2nd Oregon chain on (bought a 2 pack at Lowes so I didn't have to stop to sharpen in the middle of the job) and took care of that last section of tree like a hot knife thru butter.

I will NEVER buy anything other than Oregon chains again.

I use Stihl chains and they rock. However no chain will last long if someone has driven a nail in the log you are cutting. Ruined one chain just a couple hours after I put it on.

Or an accidental dig into the dirt with the tip. Kills the cutting edge.

Anyone local sharpen blades? I used to have a guy, but no longer. I don't have the patience to do it.

Think hitting dirt or a nail is tough? Ruined a chain on concrete in the middle of a tree!
No idea why it was there, maybe to hold it together?

To keep bugs out. Same thing happened to me and I talked to the previous owner and asked...WTF. He explained that ants and bugs were killing the trees so he filled rot holes with cement. Fixed the problem, cost me a blade.

PFFFT!

028 - Pushing 21-22 years old I believe, STILL runs like a CHAMP!

And my old man won't let me trade it in on the new one I want :banghead:

Milt told me he'd give me $200 for it, and the one I want is like $485.
