We got a letter in the mail informing us that our son was approved for reduced/free lunches at school. The only problem is I never filled out the form, our income is too high and we dont need the help.

My wife called the number on the letter and she was told that an application was submitted with my sons name and address. The first day of school, I was the one who went through all the papers and I know for a fact the I did not fill out that form. Wife asked our son (he is 16) if he filled one out and he said no. So my wife told the lady on the phone that there was a mix up and we did not apply. She was told that my sons name would be removed, but said someone must have put an application in using my sons name and address.

I would have felt better if the lady on the phone said it was a computer glitch, but she said an application was filed. Im gonna call back in a few weeks just to make sure nobody is using the free/reduced lunch, everyone else might wanna keep an eye on your childs lunch account.

I was told by my sons teacher everyone had to fill it out no matter what. We don't qualify either. I thought it was pointless to fill it out. Maybe the teacher did it?

I dont know if they are required, I have been tossing them for years, never filled one out. Maybe the school did it to get more money.

Don't think they are required. I have never heard that before.

I would go to the school administration office and request a copy of what was filled out. That way you will be able to see what was submitted on behalf of your son and if so, how they were able to do it without your signature. I seem to remember that a class will get credit for the most forms filled out and submitted in the shortest period of time in the beginning of the school year.

Possibly it could be someone messing with your kid to embarass them.
