Did they finally close for good, or are they still "liquidating"?

Thompson's in Hollywood on the old road. I know I've been seeing their "retirement/liquidation" sale signs for about the last 2 years, but was just wondering if they finally closed the doors forever or not. Seems like I remember seeing a sign last weekend that that was the FINAL weekend. Not really important, but Daughter is moving out (Yeah) and she will need a kitchenette/dining set and I figured if they were still selling, I might check them out.

I got my kitchen/dining set from Ikea. It's not great but it was cheap and easy and a good starter set for me. BUT Thompson's is about as cheap as you can get since they're trying to empty their entire inventory, if they're still open.
Someone must know...right? :tap:

See, that's what I'm looking for! Something affordable that won't break the bank, but will get her started. It doesn't have to be high quality, but we would like to be able to pick something out and deliver it to her ourselves. That's why I asked about Thompson's. Figured if they were still "open," they might have a little set at a reasonable price we could load up and drive away with.

Anything that can be delivered to your door would be local.

I have a 4-door car that fit an entertainment center, dinner table + 4 chairs, and quite a few other things in the back seat. My car was jam packed, but IKEA is great for packing stuff into your car since it's all boxed and you have to assemble it yourself
It's held up great for 2 years (knock on wood)...we'll see if it keeps up.

I was on their website this morning and that is still up, but did not say when they were locking the doors. I think the owner has been trying to retire for years now.

A family member told me the whole retirement/everything must go is BS. ONE of the owners is retiring. They aren't closing the doors permanently anytime soon, if ever. The remaining owner is going to keep it going.

Not sure if you care, but Ikea does deliver down this way. Last I saw, their southern-most delivery point is to ZIP Code 20653 (LexPk). There is likely a delivery fee though, so might want to check it out to see if it is worthwhile to get something from them.
Ikea really does have some great - and inexpensive - items. I love their glassware, pottery and linens. I actually want to go and check out their slip-covered sofas and leather couches. I can't find anything I want/like locally.

they deliver, but it's not like they're far away. College Park isn't a bad drive and to save on delivery fees, it's probably worth it.

Really, Ikea has great stuff. It's pretty busy on the weekends but not intolerable. I've got my eye on a chair & sofa up there that I'll probably bite the bullet on in another few months or so.
Great stuff at great prices. It's not THAT difficult to put together if you can read instructions correctly and BEFORE you try to put it together, lmao!

I sure wish they would not clutter our roads with the weekend signs in Solomons and Lusby...I would expect their signs do nothing more than confuse people as most have no idea where they are located (myself included). They also piss off people like me (that own a small business in Calvert County) that will suffer greatly of the commisioners receive complaints from people about the abuse of "weekend" signs and they are no longer allowed.

Well, we found a set yesterday at, of all places, K-Mart (http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_021W443508720001P?keyword=5+piece+dining+set)... She wanted something that would match her cabinets and the old pie safe we gave her. This did the trick and the price was right. It is really more of an oakish color than mahogany, and the inlay in the table is really pretty. I spent about 2 hours last night putting it all together, and we took it over today. It fits perfectly in her kitchen, and matches both the cabinets and the pie safe! Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone!
Boy, it's quiet around here now!!! :lmao:

Looks nice! You might want to tell her not to let any gentlemen stand on the table to change an overhead light bulb. I have an antique double pedestal table (same leg design) that suffered leg damage when someone (who shall remain nameless) stood on it to change the overhead light bulb. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper that day! :lmao:

 Lucky for her, the light fixture isn't directly over the table. She should be safe!!

There is a "building for sale" sign out there now. So maybe the other brother decided to not deal with it anymore?
