I got an Acer netbook, has Vista Home Premium on it, and have been pretty happy with the way it's been working, after tweaking it up a bit. This morning I took it out of sleep mode only to find it had crashed and had to reboot it. Tried it a few more times, it would crash with a BSOD everytime I put it in sleep mode. Didn't really want to restore the OS, just got it the way I like it! Then I remembered.... I left an SD card in the slot, first time I had ever done that. Took the SD card out and no more BSOD.
Looking forward to Win7.....

Why would you put Vista, especially premium, on a netbook? Vista is a resource hog. I imagine no amount of tweaking could make Vista run normally on a netbook. Win7 however runs flawlessly on a netbook. I too have the Acer netbook and I am running Win7 on it. It actually runs faster than the pre installed version of XP did. No tweaking needed.

It came that way when I bought it two weeks ago, but had the free upgrade to Win7. Just waiting for the new OS in the mail. Vista has actually been pretty stable on this Acer, except for the bug with the SD card.
It was your comments in another post about Win7 on a Netbook that convinced me to buy one, so I bought it for the hardware, not the OS that was supplied.

Vista ran great for me for about 8 months, and one day it tanked... that is when I put on the Win7 Beta.
I have ordered a few computers already with Vista/Win7 upgrade already. :yay:

MS should upgrade every Vista machine to W7 for free. I'm going to do the upgrade on our PC when it comes out. Should have ordered it in the pre-order sale.

Well You will definitely see a vast improvement in speed and stability once you get Win7 installed. Win7 is a dream come true for netbooks. Just don't upgrade. Do a clean install.

That's the plan.
And I lied. It's not actually a netbook, it's classified as a notebook but might as well be a netbook. Not much distinction anymore. Acer 1410-8804. Uses the Core 2 Solo processor in the same form factor as an 11" netbook. It's pretty spry even with Vista, but I will add one more gig of ram. I make one tweak on every PC I get, regardless.
System control panel/Advanced tab/Performance- Settings. Click on Adjust for Best Performance which de-selects everything, then select key items like, smooth screen fonts, drop shadow for icons, only things that make it acceptable. I prefer the "classic" look anyway. Turning off the enhanced graphics look makes a big difference.
